The Jam

One of my favourite ever bands, think Sound effects is my favourite album.

Best songs:

Going underground
To be someone
tube station
carnation
strange town
beat surrender
pretty green
man in the cornershop
Eton rifles

Agree with everything selected so far.

I hope they never reunite...Weller was right to end it when they were at the top.

Massive fan as well. Really brings back the time of the 70s turning into the 80s and some really new exciting sounds coming around, especially from Britain. The Pistols, The Cure, The Bunnymen, Joy Division, The Clash etc. Fantastic time to be young and into music. Was lucky enough to see the Jam twice in California in smaller clubs. Absolutely brilliant live, and they hung out as well for a while and chatted with the punters. Enjoyed the Style Council too, but not nearly as much as The Jam.

Decent documentary on Paul Weller

I loved The Style Council...I don't get all the hate.

Weller plays CA quite often these days. I've seen him in SF twice and LA in intimate club gigs for around $30 where you can really enjoy the musical experience. He's started to play more and more Jam songs too. Sadly I was just too young to have seen the original Jam but this is pretty good.

The Jam were my life, for a number of years. All in all though, it wasn't about the music or Weller's sense of style - instead I was just grateful that he spoke for the working class during the Thatcher years.
