Why doesn't Ahmed's status show him to be an expert anymore?

This is an outrageous slur, the man's a football expert and deserves such respect!

and he likes Top Gun and not unrealistic films

I agree that Mr Dimwitson cannot have lost the expertise we know and love completely but we have seen scant evidence of it this year and as such he has dropped back to the ranks of a normal squad player. This may seem unfair but it would be like calling Heskey a striker because he once scored a goal, if the posters cannot prove week in week out that they merit special status then it will be revoked.

We will never forget the magnificent insights old Ahmed gave us on subjects which by rights he should have known nothing about; the hazardous effects of drugs he had clearly never seen let alone tried, his essays on the greats of cinema despite only watching films with Tom Cruise in them, the dangers of immigration as told to him by a friend in his office and many more classics. It is probably too early to say he is a spent force in the expert field, but until he can demonstrate his breadth of knowledge on a consistent basis once more, I for one fear he is doomed to be just another poster.

I find this turn of events both disrespectful and upsetting..

Ok, the man's been away for a bit, but is that in itself enough for him to lose his deserved status? If I go on the thrash for a year and then return will I lose my "Ginger, Welsh cnut who supports the best English side ever and once made me cry...etc etc" title?

Ahmed is a self proclaimed football expert, and having had discussion with him on the subject I can only doff my hat at the man's understanding of the sport. On missing 3 injured players I foolishly felt Soton were near full strength on playing us...Ahmed corrected me, and explained that we played their reserve side. How foolish I felt on realising my error...

As you touched on, the great man's expertise does not stop at the beautiful game. He could write a column for Review based on his inciteful film criticisms. I was once of the impression that fantasy was a valid film subject..but now realise that films should only be based on what is realistic - like Top Gun and Steven Segal efforts.

The forum is tarnished by the lack of respect shown to one of its true oracles..

I share your pain on this issue Davo but feel it unfair to place the blame at the door of the mods.

I blame the MTV generation of fans who seek instant gratification and make incisive snap judgements rather than seeing things in their entirety, our new generation of experts like The King lack the all round breadth of knowledge that set Ahmed apart while their cut and paste answers do not sit well with the old school cogniscienti of the forum. Even in the names, the new generation are a poor substitute; The King shows a shallowness and egotism that would never have been considered by Ahmed whose self deprecating surname remains an enigma, does he consider his father an idiot, is he alluding to his own shortcomings, is his name really Ahmed?

Maybe the expert title went to his head and he struggled to live up to the expetation of the Caf, a little like the Heskey analogy where the goals dried up when he moved to a "big" team :smirk:
