Lately, I've been watching Murnau's Nosferatu. It's quite good, except for the speeded-up bit when Count Orlok is driving his stagecoach to his lair; suddenly, he goes like the clappers and his horses appear to have several million legs.

Count Orlok and his rocket-powered horses, Evil Dobbin and Not-very-pleasant Traveller

The film can be seen on the Tube of You, apparently.

You're not wrong, chief - those were the days of yesteryear, when everyone had to live in black & white or sepia.

We'll done Steve!

I might start one in the football forum too, the Esteemed Poncy Spanish Football thread!

Murnau's Nosferatu is a glorious film.

You should watch The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari if you like that sort of genre.

Is Nosferatu obscure? I thought it's widely known masterpiece in the film circles.

Sorry SteveJ I'm questioning your lexical choice here mate.

I was the victim of a Welsh education, mate. Well, that's my excuse anyway.

I watched a russian film called Solaris about a year ago. Was about a planet that made all your dreams come true. It was shit, though.

Does that count?

Oh oh oh! Watch Dekalog! A series of 10 Polish films loosely based on the 10 commandments but set in a few tower blocks. Very very good.

Anyone seen Shaved by the Bell?

It's pretty sexy, but that principal, Mr. Bell Ding, shouldn't have been doing those things to those students.

Well I think that Carved aka Slit-mouthed Woman qualifies as a Poncy Obscure film. It's a Japanese horror movie about 'a woman who, after being mutilated by her abused son, returns as a malicious spirit bent on committing the same act to her victims' according to Wikipedia. That description makes the film sound a lot better & more scary than it actually is; cue typical dialogue:

Boy 1: "Hey, did you hear about the Slit-mouthed Woman?"

Boy 2: "No. Who is this Slit-mouthed Woman??"

Boy 1: "She's a woman with a slit mouth."

Boy 2: "Arrghhh! Look out! It's the Slit-mouthed Woman!!1!!"

Slit-Mouthed Woman: "Hi, I'm the Slit-mouthed Woman etc."

feck this thread then!

I'm off to watch a 6 hour director's cut of Red Snow, a film about Innuit women menstruating.

You bunch of twats!

You sure I can't tempt you with a bootleg of the Slit-mouthed Woman soundtrack, mate? You've never lived until you've heard a kazoo orchestra in full effect...

I saw an incredible film last year. It was cryptic and incredibly ambiguous. The action element to it was perhaps a little overplayed but it got away with it because deep down it had a fantastic storyline and was beautifully directed. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called but it was about tapping into peoples dreams and stuff. It was even in 3D which made the whole experience even more incredible and I felt actually added to the storyline in some way, made you feel you were apart of it. There is no way they could have done that without the 3D technology. Literally the perfect movie, I'd give it a 10/10 to Avatar's 9.9.

I already have the live version they did at Royal Albert Hall.

Drive Angry 3D

A thought provoking piece on the dangers of cults, acts of revenge and that death is always right behind you. It's a story of a father's quest for redemption, a journey that mirrors Homer's Odyssey. The hardships of a father who must give his own life to save another.

Nic Cage puts in an immaculate performance as the silent protagonist, much like Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name in the Dollars Trilogy or Alain Delon in Le Samourai, though eclipsing them both with his sheer intensity and screen presence.

An engrossing masterpiece of the 21th century

9/10

Yeah, I'd never have guessed that all the villagers were Keyser Soze.

Anyone seen Rio? quality CG film, those blue parrots looked ace. To cut a long story short...the film was a repatriation allegory. One in which the black people of Brazil looted everyone else, and the monkeys looked like gremlins -Bright light, bright light. But yeah quality film.... if you want to see mindblowing computer animation, and heart felt acting...with tons of pathos, watch Rio.

Loving this obscure movie stuff.

Hausu

Trailer for House aka Hausu (1977) - YouTube

I bring you Hausu.

I don't know what to say about this. I could possibly be the worst film of all time, but as an obscure poncy film buff I reckon it's a low budget masterpiece.

Well actually I don't. But it's funny/crazy/asian enough to be worth a watch.
