Irish raiders got their asses whupped in today's Oaks but I reckon they'll get revenge in tomorrow's Derby, which I make between New Approach and Casual Conquest. I'd go for New Approach who has classic form, will stay, probably handle the track better than CC and is priced at nearly 6/1..

Far too close for comfort (poor ride by Manning IMO), Tartan drifted badly before the off but it was a bit buttock-clenching up to the finish.

It was a very good Derby. The race was relatively slowly run and yet the front two came from the rear, a sign they are both high class horses - New Approach very much so given that he didn`t settle at all.

Yeah, I think this year's 3YOs are pretty hot. I think they'll cane the older generation - we've already had the 2YO Kingsgate Native win the Nunthorpe last year and Fleeting Spirit win the Temple. I reckon it'll be the same story in the longer races. I didn't like what Manning did I thought he should have been much closer to the pace, got himself in all sorts of bother trying to force his way through.

Yeah it was almost a Dancing Brave scenario. He knew he had the best animal under him with easily the most speed so he didn`t want to use it up early doors.

It`s a shame Fleeting Spirit wont meet Sakhee`s Secret at the Royal meeting. That would be some race.
