The coolest man of all time

While we are on the topic of beautiful music and effortless talent.

Have you heard of D'angelo Plech? And if so, what are your views on his talent.

I much prefer D'angelo, some of his songs are unbelievable.

Each to their own.

Urban Hang Suite's as good as anything that genre's produced over the last two decades. Always felt D'angelo was trying to emulate Maxwell with his style.

How though?

There was less then a year's difference in time between their debut albums, and before those were released, both artists were struggling to be heard. I think Maxwell is good, but he is just a part of the neo-soul genre. For me, D'angelo made neo-soul what it is today, he influenced it completely.

Brown Sugar beats almost all soul/neo-soul albums that I can think of.

Urban Hang Suite was made a couple of years before it was released, though. I think it's best in the genre, whatever the genre was called back then(neo-Soul/Acid Jazz/Nu Classic Soul) A few tried to copy his style in the mid 90's, too. It's all subjective, but I didn't like Brown Sugar that much.

Same with Brown Sugar, it was in development for a few years before he managed to get it released. But that is neither here nor there. You didn't like Brown Sugar very much? I guess it's down to personal taste, but that album for me is nearly flawless.

I haven't given Maxwell enough chance, I think I'll go over him again to see if my mind has changed.

Exactly. It's very subjective. One thing that struck me about Maxwell was his voice. Amazing(he sounds just as good, live). I remember listening to Urban Hang Suite for the first time in 97. . .after few people recommended it to me at Uni. Was a very word of mouth album. I actually didn't like it at first. . .but thought it was masterpiece after a week.

Well, it won't do me any harm to go back and listen to it again. Perhaps my opinion of Maxwell will change.

I will keep you updated.

Intro to 'I Heard it Through the Grapevine', sends shivers down your spine. 'I bet you're wondering how I knew?'

Check this out Plech to the Zunga.

Live.

That's not live exactly, it's his studio vocal isolated - you can get these Motown CDs now that just have the instrumentals and just the vocals.

This is the best Marvin video on youtube, with the great James Jamerson on bass
