Right wing: Nani, Valencia, Johnson, Sturridge
Left wing: Bale, Silva, Mata, Young,
Attackers: Rooney, RvP, Aguero, Hernandez, Suarez, Ba

Makes it difficult with the defined positions as I certainly don't think of people like Silva, Mata, Sturridge as wingers or VdV as a central midfielder. Selection is based on both form this season and class in general, if we're talking quality over a career for example I'd personally have Berbatov over Hernandez, Ba etc but he simply hasn't played enough this season for me to consider him. Same reason I left out Rio and Terry as I think both are on the downward spiral.

What really struck me is just how few players in the bottom half I even came close to considering, there really is a case of top clubs hoarding the best players and everybody else feeding on scraps. The only players I picked outside of the top 6 were Baines (who doesn't have much competition at LB) and 3 Newcastle players which is largely down to bias. (so don't hate, it's my fkin list)

Sturridge is a bit of a cheat, if it's not allowed then I'll swap him for Ba and put Albrighton in there.

Is Cahill really one of the best defenders in the league? Got to say I've really gone off him recently, was very poor against us the other day. Seems to be a good 'footballer' but totally overrated defensively.

He's a show off defender. Quick, strong in the air and scores goals. I think this helps to mask his all round defensive game which is not as good as the likes of more unstylish defenders like Jagielka for example.

Let alone Alex Song, and I know there are some poor left backs around but Assou-Ekotto????

4 goalies - Reina, Hart, de Gea, Cech
4 right backs - Richards, Walker, Sagna, Ivanovic
6 centre backs - Vidic, Ferdinand, Smalling, Jones, Kompany, Vermaelen
4 left backs- Cole, Evra, Baines, Enrique

4 left wingers - Bale, Nasri, Giggs, Mata
6 attackers - Rooney, van Persie, Aguero, Drogba, Balotelli, Suarez

No-one has mentioned Ramires, I think he's quality and better than the likes of Parker, Lucas etc

Kyle Walker definitely belongs at or near the top of any decent RB list.

For a side that dominates possession and is on the front foot most of the time he gets caught out far too much defensively for me. Also considering his strengths are in the other half of the pitch his crossing and attacking qualities are very inconsistant.

Very promising player and doing well in a good side but I think he's become a little overrated.

It saddens me to see Parker mentioned so many times ahead of Carrick in this thread.

It shouldnt really. If Carrick had played consistently aswell as Parker has done for the last 18 months, won football writers player of the year last season and was a regular for England he'd make it in no bother.

He had a poor season last year by his own standards and didnt start a league game for us this season until November this season despite being fully fit. Since then he's been fantastic and every bit as good as Parker, so hopefully he can sustain this form and then there'd be no argument.

4 goalies - Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi
4 right backs - Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi
6 centre backs - Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi
4 left backs - Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi
6 centre midfielders - Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi
4 right wingers - Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi
4 left wingers - Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi
6 attackers - Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi, Carroll, OG

4 goalies - Reina, Hart, Cech, Lindegaard.
4 right backs - Sagna, Walker, Jones, Richards.
6 centre backs - Vidic, Rio, Kompany, King, Agger, Vermaelen.
4 left backs - Evra, Cole, Baines, Enrique.
6 centre midfielders - Carrick, Modric, Song, Giggs, Toure, VdV.
4 right wingers - Nani, Valencia, Sturridge, Nasri.
4 left wingers - Silva, Bale, Mata, Young.
6 attackers - Rooney, Hernandez, Van Persie, Aguero, Ba, Adebayor.

It's hard to fit some players in imo, could do with some sort of attacking midfield position and throw players like Nasri, Silva, Mata and VdV in, but anyway this is my picks.

Keepers:

Striker:

Rooney, Drogba, Adebayor, Ba, Van Persie, Aguero

The best:
4 goalies - Cech, Sczezny, Reina, Hart
4 right backs - Ivanovic, Rafael, Sagna, Walker,
6 centre backs - Vidic, Rio, Agger, Kompany, Vermaelen, Terry
4 left backs - Evra, Enrique, Cole, Baines
6 centre midfielders - Yaya Toure, Silva, Modric, Wilshere, Van der Vaart, Carrick
4 right wingers - Valencia, Nani, Lennon, Walcott
4 left wingers - Bale, Mata, Nasri, Young,
6 attackers - Rooney, Suarez, Aguero, Balotelli, Van Persie, Drogba

I still rate Terry quite highly.

Ivanovic I would have listed as both RB and CB if it were possible.
The likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Torres should be in here on potential but are out of it because of form. Giggs I was unsure where to put, and probably doesn't play enough. Essien would have been in if fit. Nani, Silva, Mata and Young could easily have been put in another position as well.

4 goalies: Chesney, Reina, De Gea, Vorm
4 right backs: Richards, Sagna, Jones, Walker
6 centre backs: Rio, Vida, Smalling, King, Kompany, Vermaelen
4 left backs: Evra, Cashley, Baines, Enrique
6 centre midfielders: Toure, Silva, Carrick, Song, Wilshere, Modric
4 right wingers: Valencia, Nani, Lennon, Sturridge
4 left wingers: Bale, Mata, Young, Nani
6 attackers: Gerrard, Rooney, Aguero, Van Persie, Balotelli, Hernandez

It saddens me to see Parker mentioned so many times ahead of Carrick in this thread.

On radio 5 last night someone called in to complain about the fawning over Parker, and Steve Claridge reacted like the guy had called the Queen a cnut. It's like a fecking cult. There's plenty on here who, going by their opinions regarding Carrick and Parker, tend to watch football matches by standing facing away from the pitch with a radio on turned to Talksport.

4 goalies - Reina, de Gea, Friedel, Szczesny
4 right backs - Ivanovic, Walker, Jones, Smalling
6 centre backs - Ferdinand, Vidic, Kompany, Vermaelen, King, Skrtel
4 left backs - Evra, A Cole, Enrique, Baines
6 centre midfielders - Silva, Wilshere, Song, Carrick, Yaya Toure, Modric
4 right wingers - Valencia, Lennon, Sturridge, A Johnson
4 left wingers - Nani, Young, Bale, Mata
6 attackers - Rooney, Aguero, van Persie, Drogba, Adebayor, Ba

What an amazing few sides you could pick from that:

1) Reina - Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra - Valencia, Yaya Toure, Silva, Nani - Rooney, Aguero

2) de Gea - Smalling, Kompany, King, A Cole - Lennon, Carrick, Modric, Mata - van Persie, Ba

3) Friedel - Ivanovic, Skrtel, Vermaelen, Baines - A Johnson, Song, Wilshere, Bale - Adebayor, Drogba

With Szczesny, Walker, Enrique, Sturridge and Young left over still.
What a game Side 1) vs Side 2) would be in particular!

Is this based on overall ability or on this seasons form? I've gone with former anyway
