Sony KDL-40W4500 £850
Full HD 1080p
BRAVIA Engine 2
Motionflow+100Hz
Contrast 50000:1
BRAVIA Sync
24p TrueCinema
3xHDMI

Don't want anything bigger than 40". Is this as good as it gets?

From what I've been told:

Sony > Samsung > Toshbia > LG > the rest

That's just what i've been told though, so don't trust that. I've a Sony though and it's brilliant.

There isn't a lot of difference between Sony and Samsung in all honesty.

He didn't specify that it had to be an LCD. Anyway ditch the LCD and get a viera especially if you plan on watching SD stuff.

Don't care with regards to Plasma/LCD but I don't want anything bigger than 40" and most of the ones i've looked at have been LCD.

As for standard def, the reviews i've seen for the sony I posted say it it very good at that.

My friend has that TV and the SD is nowhere near as good as my Panasonic!! If you don't mind buying a plasma then get a viera. You'll thank me once you do.

You can get 50 inch samsungs for 600 if you look around so you'll be able to find a 40 inch one for far less than a grand

seconded, you'd be mad to spend a grand on that.
My 50 inch samsung plasma cost £1200 a year ago, so you would be looking at £800 or less now.
