Welcome to the second Quarter Final match of the All Time ODI cricket draft. Some basic rules to consider while voting:

1) Judge players only on the basis of their ODI records.
2) Base your vote on which team you think is more likely to win an ODI between the two.
3) The voting will be open for 24 hours from Poll creation.

Skizzo has won the toss and will batting first.

The Teams:

@Skizzo: 1. Chris Gayle 2. Sanath Jayasuriya 3. Jonathan Trott 4. Inzamam-ul-haq 5. Kevin O' Brien 6. Lance Klusener 7. Rod Marsh 8. Shaun Pollock 9. Tim Southee 10. Craig Mcdermott 11. Muttiah Muralitharan

@KM: 1. Watson 2. Amla 3. Root 4. Da Silva 5. Matthews 6. Buttler 7. Russell 8. Hadlee 9. Donald 10. Gillespie 11. Ajmal

Pitch Conditions:
Crisp conditions Good for pace merchants. Generates good amount of bounce. Very little dust cover. Still conditions and weather do not offer much support for swing.

Batting

Opening the match for us is a pair of top level openers, Chris Gayle and Sanath Jayasuriya. Between the pair of them, they have notched fifty 100's, and over one hundred 50's, posting high scores of 215 and 189. Capable of putting up huge numbers early, and both have done so in England, they could get us off to a solid start here with building a foundation going forward. Following them, we have Jonathan Trott, one of only six batsmen to hit over 2500 runs in ODI, while averaging over 50. A talented batsman, he performed well coming in at one down through large parts of his career. He will look to either add to a commanding lead that the openers have built, or look to steady the ship if one falls early, while still being able to keep the scoreboard ticking. Following in fourth is Inzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistani's leading run scorer in ODI's, and another big hitter who can keep piling on the misery for opposition bowlers. Fifth up is Kevin O'Brien, a genuine all rounder, who gives us some additional, aggressive middle order batting. Sixth batsman up is South African Lance Klusener, a tremendous hitter, who will keep the runs coming deep down the order. Next up is wicket keeper Rod Marsh, the quick footed, acrobatic Australian will pair his work behind the stumps, with a powerful bat to add runs at a rapid rate. The tail end of the batting order includes Shaun Pollock, who has a century, and a handful of 50's to his name, to do some late damage if he is needed.

Bowling

Mentioned first of all is (arguably) the best spin bowler in ODI's, Muttiah Muralitharan. He'll be joined now in the bowling attack by Shaun Pollock, his pace and ability will help tremendously and not leave our bowling unit to be spread too thin. Craig McDermott was the spearhead of the Australian pace attack in the late 80's/early 90's. Tim Southee has established himself as part of the New Zealand opening bowling attack, and his meticulous accuracy and well disguised variations have allowed him to develop into a genuine pace threat. Lance Klusener, Chris Gayle, Jayasuriya, and O'Brien will split overs as needed. Stats are below, and more info will be provided as needed during the match thread.

Why I believe we will win

The biggest issue our team had last match was a lack of depth in the batting, and a potential for not enough strike bowlers and pace in the line up. With the addition of Pollock and Klusener, we solve both of those issues. We have batting down through number 8, with all but one having at least 1 century to their name. If our openers start the match on fire, they have the ability to put up a crushing score, and we have stroke players and heavy bats through the rest of the line up to settle the team if an early wicket falls, and to keep the runs ticking towards the end if we need to keep adding to the scoreboard.

The bowling unit now has a better balance, with Pollock and Mcdermott able to lead the charge. Murali is the leading wicket taker in ODI cricket, and even with Tim Southee coming in, we still have another 4 potential bowlers to keep people fresh, and all who have 4+ wicket games. With the opposition needing to chase a potential high score, having a consistent stream of capable bowlers on the attack will make that job too difficult to overcome.

Lastly, how could you not count on the luck of the Irish with Kevin O'Brien in the team. The only Irish player in the draft, and starting in a big match. He has one of the best ODI performances by a player to his name, and he's in good company here.

Good luck KM!

Team KM

Why I’ll win:

1) Opening partnership: I believe I've strengthened my opening order by a long, long margin. Got rid of Dhawan and bough in Amla who's record in ODI is ridiculous with an average of 50 and strike rate of 90. Combined that with Watson who in himself is an excellent ODI player, it's gonna be difficult for any bowling lineup to dislodge my openers. They can take the game away from you in any conditions.

2) Solid Middle Order: Root, De Silva and Matthews are both capable of solidifying the innings, whilst all amassing quick runs themselves. So even if I lose an early wicket, I could turn to middle order to solidify the innings and take the game in the later stages for

3) Aggressive lower order batsmen: After the platform has been laid down by my top order. In Buttler and Russell I possess two of the most aggressive batsmen in the world right now. Buttler has England’s three fastest centuries in their history whilst Russell has an incredible strike rate of 130. I’ve also got Hadlee who’s a very good batsmen in his own right.

4) Wicket Taking bowlers: In Donald, Hadlee and Ajmal I’ve three of the best ODI bowlers in a long time, three of them have an average under 25 and all are just world class. They’ll be ably supported by the likes of Watson, Gillespie. With the pitch offering bounce, I expect the likes of Donald to absolutely own this match. It's hard to find a better opening pair than Hadlee and Donald. Even with their rich bowling history, I've got the best bowlers in SA and NZ history which is an huge point for me.

5) Depth in bowling: In addition to the main bowlers I’ve listed, I’ve also got Angelo Matthews and Russell who bowl their full quota of 10 overs in their respective sides and have more than 50 or so wickets. If the ball is spinning, then De Silva and Root will provide me even more options.

@Rado_N, Could you please set up a poll for this.

Title: Who will win the ODI match ?
  • Skizzo
  • KM
Same rules as before; 24 hours, one choice only, open to public, vote can be changed.

Thank you in advance!

In my opinion, apart from the very good top4, Skizzo's batting lacks depth. Yes he has O'Brien, Kluesner but I've got Matthews and Buttler there who are proper batsmen. I also think that my top 4 is better than him

Amla is better than both of his openers. Root is better than Trott and I think Da Silva and Inzamam are equal.

In bowling, Muralitharan is obviously better than Ajmal but Donald, Gillespie and Hadlee is a better pace bowling attack than other three. Considering the bowling conditions, I think I'll be able to bounce him out quite nicely.

@Skizzo mate I've voted for myself. You also do it yourself. Good luck!

My first thought is... why couldn't I face either of them?

Very close team .. bowling attack almost even.. I think Klusener as a lower order finisher might edge it out for Skizzo as opposed to the duo of Buttler and Russel for KM. I rate Butler but Klusener was different class.

Well, just woke up and 5 votes down already. Any feedback from the voters? Not much to go off with so far.

Heading out for my match in a little while, then over to the in-laws for dinner later, so will be in and out.

Good luck again @KM, although it looks like you might sneak this one ;)

Surprised KM is winning this with such a margin. Reckon people are not giving Jayasuriya the required credit. He is the best ODI batsmen across both the teams. I guess Trott and O'Brien has too much of an eye sore to over come for Skizzo.

He isn't better than Amla. Think your "90's is better than everything right now is clouding your judgement"

I don't Jayasuriya that highly as a pure batsman. Great all-rounder though.

I rate Amla very highly as well. But in these kind of conditions, not much swing.. just good bounce, Jaya would be handful. If you look at his record in likes of SA, Oz.. it is isn't noticeably worse off his overall one.

In anycase, like I said both teams are of similar quality, only presence of Klusener over Russell swing it for me

Whose Russell on KM's side?

Like your openers more, if either gets going its game over more or less.

Hate your middle order, inzi aside. If you had picked viv and klusener would have been an easy vote.

I think Skizzo probably missed a trick by not bringing Sir Viv in. Absolute game over for me if he had brought him in.

With Viv and klusener and playing Jonty would have been diffrent game all together.

I like to think that its my aura and over all good nature that intimidates my opponents to not debate with me at all.

Conditions don't favor swing and all of Skizzo's bowlers are reliant on it, he has no real pace merchants. On the other hand KM has Donald and Gillespie. I don't love either batting line-up so that could be the deciding factor.

Run it through your program, just to make sure :D
