The Acadamy

Where have all the talents gone? When will we see another Beckham, Giggs, 2x Nev, Wes, Scholes, Butty....? I think it's about time United takes the youngsters seriosly, just like they did 10 years ago. The club must not turn into a club like Chelsea and Real Madrid who buy all the players. Players that do not play with their heart! Instead of using £20 mill on one player, use £20 mill on the youngsters! Show the rest of England and Europe that we still has one of the best acadamy! PS! Kieron Richardson will be the next.....! HE GOT SKILLS AND POTENIAL klima@hesbynett.no

yeah then as soon as their balls drop and they develop reason they skip across to OT to play with the big boys.

found that kind of shocking myself, but he had his reasons I'm sure..

It is there and is being developed. It is very much harder to get into Uniteds first team now, therefore you are seeing potentially good players going to other clubs for regular first team football. United will develop the best for their own but they are few and far between now.The standard is much higher now than it was, but you will still see the gems coming through, John O'Shea being the latest.
Most clubs are going through the same with only the odd one breaking through. When was the last time Liverpool had someone come through.??
Sure a lot of youngsters are going to City, but thats because they are more or less guranteed a game if they can kick a ball. Most of them were rejected by us in the first place so they settle for third best.

It has been a bit lean recently, not many players have come through in the past few years and the oone that have, have not been good enough and they've moved on. Greening, Wilson, Wallwork.
We became too reliant on buying ready made talent. I think that Rio may be the last major purchase for a while. I think the Plc board may well close the purse. From the reports i've read we have a few very promising youngster at the club at the moment. Hopefully we can hang on to them and give them a chance. From what i've seen Michael Stewart looks an excellent prospect, i hope he is given a chance while Keane is out.
With the coaches at the club we are now in a great position again to have the academy functioning like it did 10 years ago

United's Academy has certainly underperformed,or at least that is the percieved view. There has been something of a shake-up in terms of coaches at that level at Carrington this summer. I may be wrong but I think Brian McClair is now in charge of that side of things.
We did hit a high watermark with the clutch of players Beckham/Scholes/Butt/Nevilles that came through together at once and that is perhaps something that only happens in what?... every 10 or 20 years?...I don't know...maybe in time it really will prove to be that special.
That being said...even with the new rules of catchment areas for youth players, we still seem to be missing out on talent in our own backyard...that is the perception anyway?
City,Blackburn,Bolton...are these clubs really ahead of us at scouting, Youth, Academy level?
Don't know much about City, but Blackburn...Duff,Dunn...Bolton...that spotty scouser who scored at OT last season?
I think we have perhaps taken our eye off the ball with the local youth scouting side of things.
