that winter sport where they sweep the ice ??

It's a Canadian game called curling. Old people play a version of it on cruise ships and in Miami Beach and call it shuffleboard.

Curling. Its funny as hell. We get it up here on CBC quite a bit.

I actually think the sport it orginially Scottish. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, curling is another creation of the Scottish mind--shuffleboard on the ice. Canada is merely the best in the world now, because any Scot who could stand winter moved there.

But Canada won 2 medals to your one. In the preliminary rounds, both the Canadian men and women had the best records. The Norwegian victory over Canada for the mens' gold was a major upset. The fact that the English women's team won doesn't make you a major curling power--after all, the US women won the World Cup in 1999 [and are hosting it again] but that, in most people's minds, doesn't make the USA a major power in association football.

And I thought I'd never see an argument about curling. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> What's next, the WNBA?

Here in Canada, TSN actully plays Champions League on a tape delay because the all-important curling is on.
