That Dennis Irwin bit on JSV

Former United star Denis Irwin has told MUTV what he feels Seba Verón needs to do to improve his game, after watching him on Wednesday night.

"Seba scored his goal and set up another and you can't ask for any more than that.

"United bossed the game and while they were never going to be under too much pressure defensively they controlled things there as well."

"He likes the ball. He likes to have it and he is one of these players who wants to have it all the time and you think that if he plays with Keaney and he wants it all the time as well, the two of them clash a bit.

"Seba had a lot of the ball but at times in the first half I thought he was trying just a bit too hard to find that killer pass.

"I think that sometimes he should be looking to do things a little simpler. You will get the chance to play the killer ball but I felt he was trying too hard at times then in the second half he came out, scored a goal made a great pass for Ruud's (van Nistelrooy) goal and broke up an attack to set up Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his goal."

I think the "keeping it simple" point is really well made. Veron does try to hit spectacular passes at times and, as we all know, an awful lot of them haven't been coming off for the last year. I reckon he sometimes needs to think more about retaining possession than always trying to make a spectactular defence splitting pass. Maybe he's just too eager too please at the minute because of the way things have gone for him. You could also say the same thing about Bex IMO.

as i suspected; cork people always refer to roy maurice as keaney not keano.

Dont you mean Keano? ;)

Irwin's been a bit outspoken since he left Old Trafford. He kept quiet all the time there, he probably has a good book worth of memories in him.

Not another book! I've been reading McClair's 'Odd man out' again recently and it's a shame not all players have enough wit to write a book with is both harmless and wonderful reading.

He's always looking for the killer pass, its in the man's character. He won't change and I wouldn't want him to just as Keane won't change. Thats why Fergie spent so much money on him. for the past season it hasn't come off too often but when it does, boy, does it! You shouldn't really need more than a couple of the passes he can make.
