Namco Bandai's fighting series Tekken will no longer be a PlayStation exclusive as the sixth instalment is to be released on Xbox 360.

The Tekken franchise made its reputation on the original PlayStation console and has proved a long-standing exclusive on the platform ever since.

However, Microsoft revealed during its conference at the Tokyo Games Show that Tekken 6 will have a simultaneous release on PS3 and Xbox 360 during autumn 2009, reports MCV.

It was also recently announced that Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII will make the jump to Xbox.

Well that was unexpected.

Guess the days of 3rd party exclusives are more or less over.

My two favourite series of games are Final Fantasy and Tekken. I bought my PS3 specifically for XIII and 6 :(

And I know I'll still be able to get them on the PS3 but its a bit of a let down that Sony hasn't tried to keep some of the Playstation's most successful games exclusive.

Oh and the release date is ridiculous, its going to be about 5 years between the console release of 5 and 6.

I'm sure they've tried to, but, in general, games are just too expensive to make nowadays to keep it tied to one console.

That and Microsofts spending power, coupled with the fact they need to have the better selection of games to beat the ps3, due to the ps3's superior technology.

This news does please me mind.
:D

So its basically Tekken 7?

Doesn't change the reasoning behind why it will of happened though...
