I may be the devil, but i'm not a monster
An idea of having another sub forum in the general section dedicated to technology. Not talking about games, cd etc but we could put all threads relating to, Iphone , Android, Mac, PC, video game systems, PC help, TV, sound systems, Cameras etc. Kind of clean up the clutter in the general chit chat forum.

Niall does not favour changes to the present format. Especially extra forum/sub forums.

We've had similar suggestions in the past. The prevailing sentiment is that A: Its a football forum and there's no need to keep adding non football related forums. B: It would negate the need for a Gen forum, or at least deprive it of some decent discussions and probably promote the mindless, adolescent threads we're trying to reduce.

I'm not necessarily for this, in fact I'm against it, but the argument can be made in the other direction. Why not in that case get rid of the current events forum and put those threads also back where they used to occur, in the general?

You see, you can make the argument one way or the other. Why do threads regarding current news issues require their own forum, yet technology, which is now part of everyone's life if they like it or not in the situation where people don't know where to put a thread. A case in point is where the PC Help Thread has been yo-yoed back and forward between the general and the entertainment several times.

IMO, there should be three main general forums, the General itself, Current Events, and Other Sport. Everything else can then have sub-forums under the general. The problem is this, and it's one that echoes why current events and entertainment were removed from the general in the first place. Many people don't want to traipse through endless threads about computer games to find a thread about music, film, and TV. Many people that want to talk about a gadget don't want to traipse through endless threads about being gay, my dog has just died, and how big a turd you can shit out of your arse. And, like it or not, the general forums have more activity than the football ones, or at least equal activity.

If you want a pure football website, close down the general altogether.

We used to have three main forums until about 2001/02 when the site became too big for just those three. That doesn't however mean we're going to perpetually add extra forums for every non-football related topic. No matter what the argument, at the end of the day its still a football forum.
