147. No doubt at all. 36 great shots, (many near perfect), as opposed to nine.

And before anyone starts, no, it's not nine perfect throws. It only has to be nine near perfect throws.

And the reason that there's been many more 147's than nine darters is because darts a pub pastime played by lazy bastards who could not excel in the field of sports

And no, snooker isn't a sport either.

I think you have answered your own question there - 147's happen a lot more regularly than 9darters - so to me it is pretty obvious which is a better acheivement.

My final argument and the one that settles it for me is the principal of randomness. If you were to put an infinite number of monkeys in front of a dart board one at a time and an infinite number of monkeys at a snooker table one at a time a nine darter would be hit before a 147 break. There for me lies the key to this argument, can something that can conceivably be achieved my randomness really be a greater achievement than an act of pure artistry?

:boring:

I think you're more likely to get lucky during a 147 than a 9 darter, you need that bit of luck during the break and the way the balls position themselves, hard to be lucky during a 9 darter. Both are great achievements though.

You have 6 targets per ball in snooker....

36 shots/6 possible targets = 6

You only have 1 target per dart in darts

9 throws/1 possible target = 9

Thus, its harder to do a 9 darter due to more chance of failure.

How I worked that out I dont know.

You only have one target per ball to get a 147. You have to land on a black everytime.

Having played both, I'd say the 147 takes more skill...takes immense concentration, tactical nous, accuracy, positioning to get back on the black.

well yeah but how many monkeys can keep a leg on the ground and still see over the table... its a bit unfair baz...

9 darter, obviously.

It's so uncommon for even the top players to get a 9 darter, very few have ever managed it in a competitive match. 147s are achieved quite often in snooker.
