Group C
Group winner: Real madrid or Roma

Group D

Runner-up: inter, Ajax or Lyon

Group E
Group winner: Juventus or Dynamo kiev
Runner-up: Juventus, Dynamo kiev, Newcastle or Feyenoord

Group F
Group winner: United or Leverkusen
Runner-up: United or Leverkusen

Group G
Group winner: AC milan
Runner-up: Deportivo or Lens

Group H
Group winner: Barcelona
Runner-up: Club Brugge, Galatasaray or Lokomotive Moscow

Correct me if i'm wrong, the group winners will be picked together with the other 3 runners-up from other groups and no 2 teams should be from the same country (eg: Barce & madrid) Suppose we end up as group winner, we might get a draw as good as this,

United, Basel, AEK Athens, Lokomotive moscow

or as bad as this

United, Real madrid, Juventus, Galatasary

Obviously, the team we must avoid is Real, Juve, Depor, Roma, inter, Galatasary. And if we somehow manage to finish 2nd, then we are in big trouble! There's still a round to go yet, so, the picture might be clearer then. ;)

Actually the 2nd round groups will be 2 group winners & 2 runners-up... :)

Fear no one..If you're gonna win it you'll have to beat em sometime..At full strength we are a match for anyone
Barthez
G Neville
O'shea/Blanc
Rio
Silvestre
Beckham
Veron/Butt
Scholes
Keane
Giggs
Ruud
Be good when thay are all available again

the spaanish and itailian teams are the ones to avoid, but if what you said was true, then we are sure to get at least 1 team from these countries. If so, who would you want it be?
Roma? Juventus? Inter? AC milan?
Real? Barce? Velencia? Or Deportivo?

Next year I think

hopefully Deportivo but who knows

Just watch Depor against Bayern this week, and i must say, they are a very good team. Their star striker (Roy makaey) is in red hot form! I think they are a better side than last season.

As I've said in another thread, I hope we draw some tough opponents in next stage. It helps us to raise our game. Besides, strolling thru crap teams continuously will need to complacency to our players and fans.

For a given number of groups you can only get as many runners-up as winners, i.e. 2nd group with 2w and 2ru each. Manchester United, Real Madrid (or Barca), AC Milan and Dortmund would be the worst draw IMO but wouldn't that be good to watch?!?! I love the CL :D

Pete and uranushk1 have it right in my opinion. I'd rather not play the three weakest teams again thanks.

i want a tough 'group of death' type

like in 98/99 it was amazing

then we will raise our game

i really got a feeling we are gonna get roma

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Valencia yet, the are only the Spanish champions after all. They would be the one I would most fear, as I think their style of play would really frustrate United.

I agree that they would probably be tougher for us to beat (they are not as great as Real on a good day out but are consistently tough) but I think we all pick Real just for the sake of facing up to the current champions and their Dream Team. Let's see what they are made of!

I would chip in Dortmund to have the kraut element involved and then just pick any eyetie, any of them will do.

Bring them on!

Totally agree. Why should we fear anyone? We are MANCHESTER UNITED and they should fear us!

This is interesting, as we will probably end up with.

1. Us
2. An Italian Team
3. A Spanish Team
4. A non English/Italian/Spanish/Non-Bayern-Leverkusen team.

How about:

1. United
2. AC Milan
3. Real Madrid
4. Dortmund

Looks like a very entertaining second group phase!

When's the draw?

Should be the Friday of the week when we play against Leverkusen.

I don't care who we draw. With a full side we are as good as anyone in Europe. We are going to have to play the big boys sooner or later so why worry about who we're going to draw.
A couple of months ago people were saying Real Madrid were unbeatable but Athens have proved that wrong.

I want us to play whoever comes out of the hat, whether its a giant like Real or a minnow like Basle. ;) I wouldnt mind the toughest draw possible, as it would fire us up like in '99 where we got the toughest possible teams. For instance, we would probably play better against Real than we would against Lokomotive Moscow.

We don't have to play either. There is nothing to stop four groups having an Italian side and a Spanish side, and the other four groups from having neither.

Errrrrrm, there are only going to be four groups!

You are all crazy people! Don't you think drawing a "Group of Death" would seroiusly affect our league performance? Having to play tough european games in the group stage means:

1) more injuries
2) Tireness
3) possibility of elimination causing UNITED to lose millions of pounds.

I would rather face the big guns in the QF.
;)

don't forget that the year we did best in all competitions was the year that we faced the big guns throughout the season - from the first group phase to the final.

i think we will thrive this opportunity and i think we will perform much better in the league also as the players will have to stay upbeat all the time. There will be plenty of time to rest this upcoming summer, so don't worry about it!

It`s a shame that Man UtD fans`re afraid of someone.Fergie`s lads must go and defeat all of them and prove them they`re still that United they all have been always afraid of.

Never lose your faith in Utd.Their decline will be over very soon I`m sure.
Pessimistic thoughts always turn into sommat real.Think only positively `cause fortune smiles at optimists.Tomorrow it will be a new down,a new day and a new life for us.It doesn`t rain forever.

Do ye guys remember that Real Madrid won the Champs League 99/2000 while they finished only 5th in the Spanish League and were even on the 17th position during that season. And we`re the 3rd now. It`s a long way to go and nothing is over for us.
