'tis a silly place
Barthez

O'Shea Brown Blanc Silvestre

Solskjaer Seba Fortune Giggs

Scholes

Ruud

??? our squad is really being pushed to the limit.

Considering the injuries etc, the best team to put out there IMO would be:

Barthez
Brown O'Shea Blanc P Neville
Chadders Veron Scholes Giggs
Ole RVN

The best team and the team SAF will put out seems to be two entirely different concepts to SAF this season. Recently he's gone for the hard option, and he seems determined not to play Chadders. He would have got a few games by now if he was going to get a chance.

I know, and I do get frustrated sometimes. Right now I am a bit pissed off with Silvestre - his positioning just kills me. Fortune has done "just" alright, but Chadders will provide us with width which we badly need.

I'd love to see Chadders on the right - better still Davis - but its not going to happen. I dont think SAF will drop Silvestre, as if his positional play isnt top notch he's hardly going to replace him with Phil. I think Fortune just did enough on Sunday to keep his place, though the lack of a defensive midfield in there with Fortune and Seba in the centre worries me.

I'd go with

Barthez
P Neville Brown O'Shea Silvestre
Giggs Veron Scholes Fortune
Ole RVN

Heard he played well for the reserves... hope he's making a claim for the right spot...

what's happened to chadwick? i haven't seen him play in so long.. has he fallen out with SAF entirely?

i'm guessing we'll play with the same team from last week - maybe one change - a swap between Fortune and Forlan with giggs moving to midfield and Scholes being the hard man:

Barthez

JOS Blanc Brown Silvestre

Scholes Veron Giggs

Ole RVN Forlan

looks a little odd, but i think this squad looks like the finest set of players we have.

talk of chadders nt playin, bt wots hapnd 2 forlan?? he woz doin gr8 & now he hasnt played 4 a few games.
& ther woz me thnkin he mite go on the sort of run RVN managed last season! <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

He must get a chance sooner or later with our injuries, I think SAF doesnt want to play him in a big game like Arsenal and Pool.

It also seems Phil has been added to the absentees list, he's suspended. Here's our squad:

Barthez, Ricardo, G Neville, Brown, O'Shea, Blanc, Silvestre, Fortune, Scholes, Veron, Giggs, van Nistelrooy, Solskjaer, Forlan, Pugh, May, Chadwick, Davis, Nardiello, Richardson.

Phil is suspended and Veron may be out with jetlag (see fergiesarmy's post)

therefore

Barthez
O'Shea - Brown - Blanc - Silvestre
Chadwick - Fortune - Scholes - Giggs
Solskjaer - van Nistelrooy

Bench:
G Neville
Veron
Forlan
Nardiello
Ricardo

did you go to the mobile phone text messaging school of english?

Phil suspended, Gary having a late fitness test. Virtually forced to play 442, with RVN and Ole up top.

Man Utd SQUAD: Barthez, Ricardo, G Neville, Brown, O'Shea, Blanc, Silvestre, Fortune, Scholes, Veron, Giggs, Van Nistelrooy, Solskjaer, Forlan, Pugh, May, Chadwick, Davis, Nardiello, Richardson

NEWCASTLE SQUAD: Given, Harper, Griffin, Hughes, Bernard, Elliott, O'Brien, Dabizas, Speed, Solano, Dyer, Jenas, Acuna, McClen, Shearer, Bellamy, Ameobi, LuaLua

If you look at Newcastle as individuals we're far stronger. Therefore I agree with Keane that injuries arnt acceptable as an excuse to not make sure we dont lose our 31 year home against the Magpies.

We saw against West Ham that losing to City wasnt a big enough slap in the face to improve our form. I'm hoping that simply knowing how big the next 3 are will be inspiration enough.

A must win game. <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

Barthez
O'Shea Brown Blanc Silvestre
Forlan Scholes Fortune Giggs
Ruud Ole

or if Neville is fit, I'd have a back four of

Brown O'Shea Neville Silvestre

if seba's fit he will have to play, i think his game will suit us if Newcastle come to defend.

He was very good against So'ton last home game, and i have no doubts he will be again. Away from home is a different matter however.

Blanc and O'Shea even if Gaz is fit.

I would be surprised if Seba plays.

It's already said that the Prem. is too fast for him, so he's not likely to be any quicker having just flown back from Japan. Also, he will be needed against Basle.

Not worth the risk imo.

That'd be my team too. Diego hasn't had much of a chance since he's scored the two goals and I think he can do well for us on the right. It'll give us one more player out there with pace besides Giggs, with the added bonus of having an additional scoring threat on the pitch. He also links up play well and I can see him creating chances for Ole and Ruud.

i think spoony might be on to something...

he's played well everytime teams come to defend..thus giving him space....

wonder if Newcastle play this way tomorrow?

Do Newcastle play defensive football??

Anyroad, he'll be jet=lagged.

Dont understand why Forlan ever plays on the right, he aint a winger. Put him up front so he can get some games. Chadwick I dont think is good enough, far to weak and seems to have gone backwards rather than forwards in the last few seasons.

I think Richardson may start.
Personaly I think Giggs plays better upfront with RVN than Scholes, he can take people on, whereas Scholes sits too deep.
God know who is gonna play but at least our defence looks strong.
Any word on Bellamy, He would tear Blanc to shreads with his pace and shearer is to strong for Brown,

Forlan seems to prefer playing deep and is pretty good haring up the flanks and putting in crosses.

And as we're short on goals, it makes sense to utilise all three of our strikers if we can. With Giggsy's goal scoring record at OT not exactly the best, it's a bit risky to play him as a striker.

i think they will at OT..

don't most teams, soak up the pressure and hit us on the break..? (at OT)

Going to be a fun game. <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

I'm not expecting too much from today tbh. We're likely to field a team that on the whole is inferior to Newcastle. I don't mean in terms of individual quality - but they have been playing as a settled side for a while now, and we haven't had a settled side at all. Got to make a difference.
