I don't really like the idea of using Keane, but it SAF thinks that he's 100% then he has to play.

Another idea would be:

---------------------- Barthez --------------------

-------------- Johnsen ------- Blanc --------------

----- Brown ----------- Butt ----------- Silv -----

--------------- Keane -------- Verón --------------

----- Scholes ------------------------- Giggs -----

------------------------ RVN ----------------------

I don't know which I prefer TBH, many would love to see the 4-4-2, but for me, I'd go for the second formation as it gives more flexibility in attack whilst plugging any holes that might appear that could be exploited on the counter. It does require Butt however to stay disiplined and STAY back and plug the gaps! I'd like to see this formation in action as it could in theory rip the opposition to bits!

Brown at right back? For me it's a better position for him at the moment And I think that Irwin is too slow to cover this match!

It was more wishful thinking on my part, but who would have expected Keane to play last night?

Oh please, let him be fit!

Veron ---- Keane ------ Scholes ------- Giggs

I choose Veron since I feel we need a strong crosser on the right, could play Ole there and swap Veron playing Scholes up front and Butt in the centre, but hey what do I know.

Feel free to criticise my choice of Irwin - I'd rather him than Phil anyday.

Veron will be far more effective in the middle - he was a spectator at OT against Leverkusen for most of the match for the simple reason that he was out of position. Scholes would also play better than Seba on the right..

WOW!!!!! WEASTE.....I like your realm of thinking! Spot on to you mate!!!!!! with that formation I think we could run the opposition off of the pitch. Sorry, but I'm worried about Tuesday...the league is almost gone, but a place in Glasgow is still very winnable if we come out sharp across the whole of the team. I'd rest Ruud on Saturday for a start.

Ta! :)

Can you see a V shape? Well, think of that V as a bird flapping its wings. When we are under attack, it inverses the formation as it was shown, yet when we attack it looks like it is shown. The whole idea is that it pivots around Butt who is just in front of the two centre backs.

Obviously a real football match doesn't work like that, but when one of the other players goes into an attacking position, Butt can move into their original place! It changes the formation yes, but gives great defensive cover.

We would ned RVN to be 100% on form in such a system though! And I have no doubts that he will be! When the chips are down and all! A place in the European Cup final will inspire them all. <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Two topics on this now, and I can't be arsed posting in the new one where it's starter didn't look to see if there already was one, so this one will probably now get closed! :)
