Give Chadders, Phil and Ricardo a chance to start as we're almost assured progress. Ruud is out.

assured progress. Fergie wouldn't agree with that, nothing is ever assured in football. I agree however it would be nice to give some of the others a run out especially Ricardo,Fortune,Chadwick and possibly Richardson ;)

I'd like to see our strongest team out there. So, I'd play the team above except I'd play Gary, Becks and Fabien. I'm worried about all the travel involved in the next 2 weeks to Athens and Cyprus. If we can win on Wednesday, we're virtually assured of toping our group. That would put us in a position to field a weakened side in Cyprus the following week and to keep our key players in Manchester ready and rested for the Southampton match. To be honest, I'm much more worried about our league form right now.

Almost isn't good enough.

And if you're "dropping" Barthez, what's wrong with Carroll?

He has done very little wrong, yet all of a sudden there's a new kid on the block, so any loyalty goes out the window. We've brought a new player, and regardless of how much we know about him, he must be brilliant.

It's a CL match - at least we know what Carroll can do.

It makes me sick how Carroll has just been "discarded".

I don't think Fergie will rest anyone until we get a few goals or the next match.

Barthez

Tweety
Blanc
Johno
Gaz

Giggs
Butt
Veron
Becks

Scholes

Ole

Subs: Ricardo, Tierney, May, Phil, Fortune, Richardson, Forlan.

that's a realistic outlook.

Me too, but have you noticed that Carroll hasn't been playing in any team at all since? He hasn't played whatsoever in the reserves. I'm starting to think he must be injured.

I think we'll play very deep and grab a point. You know Fergie and his magic ten points! He might drop Ole and play Diego on his own up front with five in mid-field. That should do Diego's confidence even more good.

And it would do wonders for Ole's.

Does anyone know if we have been able to actually field what fergie thinks is the strongest team this season, being, Barthez,GNev,Larry,Rio,Silvestre,Beckham,Keane,Veron,Giggs,Scholes,RVN.

Not at all. I just want to get a better look at Ricardo while we still have a chance of easing him in. In fact, check another thread from a week or so ago and you'll see I said Carroll is still #2, and was shouted down. Dont point the finger.

I would like to see fortune start against olympiakos. He's one of the few who showed the desire and determination during last week game, hence my starting XI:
Barthez
G neville
oshea
blanc
P neville
Fortune
Veron
Scholes
Becks
Ole
Forlan

Not pointing anything.

But unless Roy Carroll is injured, why hasn't he been figuring anywhere.

I think Fergie has obviously felt Carroll still isn't up to the standard of Barthez or Ricardo.

Why does all have to be so personal?

With Butt and Ruud out of the squad, I would like to see 4-4-2 formation this time.

Barthez

Gary - Blanc - O'Shea - Silvestre

Becks - Veron - Scholes - Giggs

Ole - Forlan

Id wager a revamp in the midfield:

Becks
Giggs
Fortune
Seba

Scholes
Ole

Id rather have Scholes in mid and Diego with Ole but I cant see it happening.

Butt is out so i would think Phil will get a game beside Veron to do the donkey work.

Barthez

G Neville
O'Shea
Blanc
Silvestre

Beckham
Phil Neville
Veron
Giggs

Ole
Scholes (to alternate between dropping deep and staying up)

cant see far past this lineup to be honest. Reckon Fergie will bring on Fortune for most of the 2nd half though.

agreed..

anyway, Fab's back to his best.. we can't drop him just cos Riccardo or carroll need a run out..

its important we have the best team out today.. coz we still need the points to be sure of qualification.. plus we want to finish top and avoid the big guns in the next round.

Thanks 2B !

Stewart's not even on the bench tonight, maybe he's injured as well ? Not a huge Stewart fan, but I'd give him a whirl over Phil Neville as midfield anchor.
