Given the SAF has said he'll give a few players a run out, this is how I see the team:

Ricardo

GNev Rio May PNev
Chadders Veron Scholes Fortune
Ole Forlan

Subs:

Carroll
O'Shea
Roche
Richardson
Nardiello
Tierney
A.N. Other

May won't be a good option.. he has no future with the team so i think SAF want to partner Rio with JOS to give them opportunity to gel.

not including a defensive midfielder in the team could also be a problem scholes and veron will get too tired having to chase too many balls.

i see either michael stewart or butt being given a run out after his injury..

and united will still go with 4-4-1-1, so Ole will probably not start either..

Fergie won't care about winning. I think May will play as he has been on the bench recently and needs his yearly outting.

as for having a defensive midfield, I don't see he has many options. Butt, Keane and Stewart are all out. PNev could do it again with Tierney at LB.

As far as I see, Barthez, Becks, Giggs, RVN, Silvestre and Blanc will all be rested. RVN because of injury, Blanc for a rest and the others because of the punishing schedule they have had with international games.

Don't think he would risk it. He needs rest.

i agree. more flying won't help him get back to fitness.

i won't be surprised if a few players are not going to be on the trip entirely..

SAF might even skip this one!

Ricardo;
GNev, Rio, O'Shea, Silvestre;
Chadwick, Veron, PNev, Fortune;
Forlan, Timm.

:)

Agreed, but I also think that Scholes will be rested, remember he has had two injuries this season and hasn't been rested yet.

And the players rested should obviously stay in Manchester, no reason to travel all over Europe to warm the bench against a mediocre opposition.

That means he's fresh, not in a need of rest.

I recall Depor going through to the QF before playing Leverkusen in the final group match. They fielded a reserve side which could have backfired on them later on. They were awesome in the 2nd group stage (ask the arse), but were only a shdow of themselves later.
OK, we outplayed them twice in the QF, but maybe we were helped by the lost momentum due to that home defeat to Bayer.
I think we should rest a few players, but bare in mind that we can't allow defeat to Haifa
(especially as I invested my last few $$$ in going to Cyprus )

Thats what I reckon too, though I'd hope one of Roche or Tierney to get a run out too. There's loads of tickets available here as it turns out, and most football fans here are going, whether they be Villa fans or whatever - but one Manc girl I spoke to ain't going now that its unlikely that Beckham will be playing!

Agree about momentum.

I would like to see =

Carroll
Roche
O'Shea
Ferdinand
Silvestre
Becks
Veron
Scholes
Giggs
Forlan
Ole

But knowing Fergie, it will probably be something like my guess earlier.

From Man Utd.com:

The full travelling squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Roy Carroll, Ricardo Lopez, Ben Williams
Defenders: Lee Roche, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, David May, John O'Shea, Rio Ferdinand, Mikael Silvestre, Mark Lynch
Midfielders: Kieran Richardson, Danny Pugh, Paul Scholes, Quinton Fortune, Mads Timm
Forwards: Diego Forlan, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Daniel Nardiello.

Here's my line up:

Ricardo

Tweety
Rio
Sheasy
Gaz

Fortune
Scholes
Phil
Richardson

Forlan
Ole

Subs:

Carroll
Roche
Lynch
May
Pugh
Timm
Nardiello

we have already qualified so my team would be

Ricardo GK
Brown RB
Oshea CB
May CB CAPT
Lynch LB
Chadwick RW
Fortune MC
Timm MC
Richardson LW
Forlan STK
Nardiello STK

Goalkeeper I would prefar Ricardo on Carroll because hes the new comer and had the least share of games. We need to know well his potential

Defense Brown needs more match practice, while i
would like to see Maysie and Lynch in the side. They are a gamble but if they can play well ( I remember maysie in his golden days and he was a hell of a defender) we would have fount good backups in critical places

Midfield Chadwick on the right and young sensation Richardson on the left. I would let fortune play as a defensive midfielder ( an experiment Fergie is trying) because if he can settle down in the that position he would prove precous ( with butt and keane injured).Timm is a gamble that i would also try, who knows maybe he is really the new scholesky

Attack Definately Forlan and Nardiello. Forlan need more games if we want him to settle down. I would play him deep were his hardwork is majorly exploited while releasing the young yet deadly Nardiello up front.

there is a good chance we lose but we can afford it

the advantages of playing this side is
1 We avoid useless injuries and yellow cards to the first team
2 We can rest the first team
3 We will have a better picture of the reserves playing first team play

Well im afraid Brown is still injured and i don't think Chadwick is in the squad. Andfergie is now saying there will be no Major changes

It should be-

Ricardo

Gary - Rio - O'Shea - Silvestre

Pugh/Timms/Richardson - Scholes - Phil - Fortune

Forlan - Solskjaer

We all know its going to be a skelton side, but it will do some of the youngsters/fringe players good to get another 90 minutes under their belt.

I believe that Richardson might be in line for a start, and i hope if fit that Michael Stewart gets a chance. He's apparently played well for the reserves and he was excellent for Scotland U21's.

The result is of secondary importance, so lets hope this group of players can show us that mass buying in January may not be needed.

This will be tonights line up

Ricardo
G.Neville
Rio
O'Shea
Silvestre
Forlan
Richardson
P.Neville
Fortune
Scholes
Ole

I hope Chadwick doesn't play, he's so painful to watch.

Where's the irritating RUaladyboy today?
