Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson chasing Catania striker Takayuki Morimoto.

The People says Fergie's spies have been to Italy to watch the 21-year-old striker play for Catania and have made contact about a potential deal in the new year or at the end of the season.

Morimoto would be a massive commercial asset in United's bid to dominate the Asian market.

He has recovered from a knee problem that stopped his progress a couple of years ago.

Ferguson is expected to make a personal check shortly, but sources close to Catania claim an inquiry has already come in and they would be open to a sale - but preferably in the summer once their survival battle in Italy is over.

Finances at the club so bad that Fergie has to pay for transfers himself?

He could be a decent back-up striker but I don't think he's good enough for Manchester United.

Morimoto, this is another Dong, probably worst

Don't think so, if we rated Park great, Morimoto has the potential to be even better. Stronger Physique, has a bit more pace and looks more of a goal threat. Morimoto is playing week in week out in the Serie A FFS, not an unknown China league. Different league compared to Dong. Though we do have better options, but with Park aging, he is a great prospect for his replacement, will certainly be the new Asian talisman/marketing player.

Well you've convinced me. If he's good enough we will give him a chance.

Brilliant striker. Good speed, strength and finishing - he'll do fine here. Completely different from Dong in any aspect. He's still young as well. I think Japanese players have come the farthest in the last decade. Certainly a team/country/players worth watching out for. Their technical skill has always been top notch but now their physical ability is improving. Would welcome him with open arms. Macheda has proven he still has a year or so to really make an impact and I think Danny does best coming from the sides in a 4-3-3 than as a striker in a 4-4-2.

I get linked with him of FM every now and then, that's all i can contribute on this matter. He is potentially as good as Aguero on my game btw :)

Manchester United And Everton Compete For Ronaldo Wannabe | CaughtOffside
Corriere dello Sport in Italy are reporting that Japan ace Takayuki Morimoto is hoping to secure a move to the Premier League in January, with Manchester United and Everton believed to be the interested clubs.

The Catania player has fallen out of favour at Stadio Angelo Massimino, and has demanded a transfer in order to fulfil his potential.

That potential is very high indeed if his statements from other players are anything to go by.

AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato compared Morimoto to Brazilian legend Ronaldo in an interview last year, and if he turns out to be half as good as the World Cup record goalscorer, the Premier League could welcome a very special player indeed.

Hang on, he can't get in the Catania team? That's not a very good sign, is it?

Sounds like some sort of legendary Japanese warrior. Could be useful.

Had a bad injury didn't he and that's why he missed the WC. Don't know much about his ability so I'm gonna stay away from this one.

Very good player for Catania. Strong (despite short build), pacey and decent finisher. Saw him play for Catania a few times and I must admit he kind of impressed me. At least 50 times the player Dong was

If he's fallen out of favor in Catania how can he play for United ? I love to read these "to fulfill his potential " sentences in articles. As if the player firmly believes he's destines for great things

If we're going to sign a Japanese player, we should look no further than Honda.

Aye, he really impressed me at the World Cup. He's a clever player who could provide good cover for Valencia.

Japan manager didn't fancy him in the summer either, yet you hear nothing but good stories about him. So either he is actually very good or his agent is doing a very good job.

I'm pretty sure he was injured.
