System Update - PS3

Alright guys,

I have been trying to download the most recent system update for my PS3 and i keep getting the message

'an error occured during the download operation, a connection to the server cannot be established' 80710723'

it has happened the last 5 times i have tried to download it, any ideas what might be the problem?

Probably your connection to the router.

Try restarting the router and the playstation.

Servers are down, can you use the browser?

You could always download it via your PC and update from a memory card/usb stick, etc.

Well, he doesn't say much does he? Is this a new PS3, has he ever downloaded a system update before, etc. Without such information it's just guessing.

Oh the joys of the newcomer I was one myself. My brother bought a PS3 for his kids for Christmas thinking it was simply just a games console...

PS3 is probably 8 months old. yea i have been able to download the updates before , this is the first i have had a problem with.

sounds like a router problem from the error code your giving. Does the download stop midway or does this error come up straight away? Can you sign into Playstation Network?

Could be that you might need to open the ports on your router as after the odd software update some people found connection issues thus resulting in having to open said ports.
