MANCHESTER UNITED are believed to be closely monitoring MLS American duo Santino Quaranta and Ed Johnson as they look to bolster their squad.
Reports in the UK have suggested that DC United striker Quaranta had signed for the Red Devils with the United States Under-17 international joining Sir Alex Ferguson's side in January once the transfer window re-opens.
Quaranta
The 17-year-old forward - who qualifies for a UK work permit through his Italian grandparents enabling him to gain an EU passport - is regarded as one of the most promising stars of the US league since becoming the youngest-ever player to sign for MLS at the age of 16.
Scoring five goals in his debut season in the US top-flight, the attentions of the European powerhouses started to focus on the youngster, with Manchester United leading the chase.
However, an injury-hit season in a team that failed to make the play-offs had not helped Quaranta prove his worth this season, yet United have not lost interest.
Both sides have played down reports that a deal has officially been agreed, but United are long-term admirers of the teenager.
Dallas striker Johnson has also attracted the interest of United having impressed this season at club level and international level for the US Under-21s
Both players were due to head to Old Trafford for training late last year, only to see it postponed due to scheduling difficulties.
United have monitored his progress and they could invite him over for a trial later this year.
