Idealy id prefer a surround sound speaker system but living in a flat that leaks noise i don't really want the neighbours complaining, so surround sound headphones will have to do. anyone got any? are they any good and can you recommend any? I dont really want to spend much more than £60

Yeah I have these:

7.1 surround.

but yeah, to summarise you should get Astros. They're what the pro's use.

I think that they simply change the sound in such a way that it appears to come from in front or behind. It's digital processing really isn't it? I mean, think of the ears as two mics, you only have stereo hearing, but because of the way that your ears are shaped, it muffles the sound from the back in such a way that you can tell that the sound is coming from behind.

I could be totally wrong, because I really have no clue what I'm talking about here, just guessing.

In all seriousness, there are reasons why your ears are shaped the way that they are rather than simply being two holes on the side of your head.

Sorry Biscuit, different speakers on their own plugged into two stereo mics doesn't make it happen. It might help it happen, but something else has to be going on.

Ordered up a pair of Turtle Beach X11's. Only £30 but fancy seeing how they compare to my astros. Only stereo though, but reading reviews you can still hear directional footsteps.
