Superman

Bahahaha, that 'new' superman movie is a piece of shit. Just absolutely rubbish.

Warden: This country is safe again, Superman, thanks to you.
Superman: No, sir. Don't thank me, Warden. We're all part of the same team. Good night.

I always liked that scene at the end.

I always got a bit cheesed off with the spinning round the earth to turn back time bit

No he had time going in reverse, you could see the rocks jumping upwards back to the top of the mountain and the water rushing back into the dam

Which as he was traveling back in time is what was happening.

You drinking?

From Wiki time travel in science fiction.
1978 Superman Richard Donner Superman circles the Earth at tremendous speeds allowing him to travel back in time to just before an earthquake created by Lex Luthor.

Of course I am.

He didn't send the earth backwards, he travelled back in time.

What the feck are you two arguing about, you're both saying the same fecking thing

Spastics.

No he's saying Superman made the earth reverse, I say superman travelled at the speed of light by using the earths gravity to slingshot him around and increase his speed to that of light allowing him to get to a point before the events happened. I understand how it can be confusing for you.

Please quote where he said that?

Yeah too bad the third sucked.

Take that back!

While not being the best film, I love Superman 3. Superman, Pryor, a fight between Clark Kent and the "evil" Superman, the lovely Annette O'Toole - what more could you ask for?

I do love Superman the Movie though. If only they'd have kept Donner on for the sequel, we'd have a real epic instead of half of one.

Either way its a shitty way to end the film.

Of course I am.

Yes but it's not because he was traveling so fast, the implication is that his momentum circling round the globe cause it to start spinning the other way round hence causing stuff to happen in reverse.

It was a cop out. Although it did happen in one of the comics, which is where they got the idea from.

No he was travelling at the speed of light therefore time was going in reverse for him.

and there again, please try to read and comprehend next time.

Then what is the need for him to switch directions to start the globe spinning the correct way again? Surely he'd just stop?

He over shot, god it's not a precise science Gir.

You're being a gimp.

If superman is travelling at a speed which allows him to go back in time from his viewpoint water would go back into the dam, rocks would suddenly jump up back to were they where. Try to keep up.

They only did that because the first film was supposed to run straight into the second but they couldn't decide whether to do that in the end. Originally he was supposed to divert the missile into space where it hit the three villains in the phantom zone, with the film ending on a cliffhanger.

Apparently there is a Richard Donner cut of the second film and it's not as good as was hoped.

Also, I know why they did it but it was lame when they reused the earth spinning trick in the Donner director's cut of II.

Yeah, I have it. It's not as good as it could have been for several reasons:

Most of the stuff in the script was never actually filmed by Donner.

The key "reveal" scene where Lois figures out Clark's secret identity is made up of two different screen tests filmed on two different cheapo sets and with the actors looking vastly different (Reeve wears two pairs of specs that are totally different and is about 30 pounds lighter and with boot polish in his hair in one take). That was all the footage they ever filmed for it though.

The major fault is that it was edited really badly. Too much of the Richard Lester material was cut, there were some appalingly amateur bits of sound editing and worst of all, some really cheap CGI that was done with a total lack of continuity with the original film and no attempt was made to keep it stylistically similar to the period the film was made.

On top of this, the original ending (complete with modern stock footage sticking out like a sore thumb) is used. That being...the ending they cobbled on to the first film! Superman flies around the world turning back time so that Lois forgets his secret.

Having said all that, it's worth watching just for the inclusion of all the Marlon Brando scenes which were cut out because of the money he would hav recieved had they used them back in 1980.
