Sunderland have turned down last-minute approaches for David Bellion from both Manchester United and Liverpool.
Black Cats chairman Bob Murray accused Manchester United last week of unsettling the 20-year-old French winger with an illegal approach and rejected a bid believed to be in the region of £1million.
Murray said: "Manchester United have tried again to get David on the cheap. We have been trodden on and that's all I need at this time.
"Liverpool also came in for him on Monday, but the lad is most likely to go to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
"Bellion came to us as an amateur 18 months ago and the agent involved was paid £200,000 and that's not bad. We made him a three-and-a half-year offer last October and I feel we are being used."
Bellion went AWOL from Lilleshall last week, claiming he was visiting his sick mother in France, but he has returned to the north east and played 25 minutes for the reserves at Blackburn last night.
Should the player prove his fitness, manager Howard Wilkinson has said he could still play a vital part in the club's bid for Barclaycard Premiership safety.
Wilkinson has had to settle for the addition of only Moroccan international Talal el Karkouri on loan from Paris Saint-Germain for the rest of the season but has backed the transfer window system which is now closed until the end of the season.
"I thought the idea was good," he said. "In May managers can plan for the season so there's a lot of advantages in both buying and selling.
"It gives clubs the chance to create stability and it gives you guarantees. Even clubs with the buying culture have got to be happy for six months.
"This is a crucial time of the season and I've tried to bring in two quality pleaky players but one has fallen away - but persistence has paid off in this instance."
