Suggest some good movies

Just watched 'Vantage Point' and 'The Sentinel' and am a huge fan of 24 (the TV show). Can anyone suggest some more thrillers (CIA/Secret Service type stuff) which is fairly new (i.e: within last 8-10 years max)

The best was 'Clear and Present Danger', 1993. A little dated these days but still a very good thriller along those lines, far superior to 'Vantage Point'.

A decent older one is 'No Way Out' with Kevin Costner, 1987 - a good thriller.
More recent ones like 'Munich' (Mossad, not CIA) and 'The Quiet American' are other spy types, Munich was okay, Quiet American was shite

Watch Sean Connery Bond movies, Thunderball to start with.

Roger Moore's best bond movie Octopussy is also fantastic, the greatest bond storyline ever. Even he looked good as a bond.

As for the CIA-KGB stuff watch "The Bourne Identity" not that from that infidel Deamon but Richard Chamberlin, the first one that came as a 7 part TV series,

Was a great fan of Ludlum's writings in my school days, and that Richard Chamberlins version was immense.

Another movie made on Carlos the jackal, a plot similar to Bourne Identity was "The Assignment" released in 1997, similar plot but without Bourne and a brilliant ending.

Another movie an adaptation of Colin Forbes novel. The book was a thriller reckon movie should also be good.

I can go on suggesting.....

Obviously done Bourne, they were spot on...
I prefer newer stuff btw

Havent seen any of these movies though but read all the fiction works of Ludlum, some of them are brilliant storytelling on and before the cold war period..From the books I can rememeber

* 1977 - The Rhinemann Exchange — miniseries — Stephen Collins as David Spaulding, Lauren Hutton as Leslie Jenner Hawkewood - Great Work, should be a good movie

* 1983 - The Osterman Weekend — film — Rutger Hauer as John Tanner
Should Good movie with less action but a thriller

* 1985 - The Holcroft Covenant — film — Michael Caine as Noel Holcroft

Not sure about it

* 1988 - The Bourne Identity — miniseries — Richard Chamberlain as Jason Bourne, Jaclyn Smith as Marie St. Jacques7
The one I suggested in my previous post!

* 1997 - The Apocalypse Watch — miniseries — Patrick Bergin as Drew Latham

Not sure here

* 2002 - The Bourne Identity (loosely based on novel By Robert Ludlum) — film — Matt Damon as Jason Bourne and Franka Potente as Marie Helena Kreutz

Rubbish film

* 2004 - The Bourne Supremacy (not based on the novel by Robert Ludlum) — film — Matt Damon as Jason Bourne

Mediocre work by Ludlum standards and apparently a good movie

* 2006 - Covert One: The Hades Factor — miniseries — Stephen Dorff as Jon Smith

Dunno much

* 2007 - The Bourne Ultimatum (not based on the novel by Robert Ludlum) — film — Matt Damon as Jason Bourne

Another piece of rubbish from the Bourne Trilogy. This movie would've held some weightage had Carlos not being nabbed by the French intelligence in the real life, Ludlum in his book choose the kill Carlos in a different manner.

* 2009 - The Matarese Circle — film — Denzel Washington as Brandon Scofield 1

Great book should be a great movie

* 2009 - The Chancellor Manuscript — film — Leonardo DiCaprio as Peter Chancellor 1

He's enough to feckup the work.

Patriot Games is good, as is Sum of All Fears.

Something totally unrelated to what you requested, but I would recommend it anyway as I watched it recently and thought it was great, is Children of Men.

Not wholly secret service stuff bit a quality movie is The Insider.

Was going to say why has no one mentioned the Usual Suspects, just noticed its now coming up to 15 years old... its ridiculous that its that old now!

A more recent one though is The Departed, great film!!

I was looking forward to Good Shepherd , but I was indifferent to it, same with road to perdition.

Saw Cape Fear with De Niro last night, it's pretty old and nothing like Bourne movies, includes feck all of Secret Service but still a fairly decent thriller.

Now could anyone recommend me some good non-CIA thrillers (creating a new thread = pointless), with a random bloke who moves to some seemingly calm place, like Alaska, or Siberia, just to find out that he's in great danger and needs to figure out a plan?

Spy Game was good with Redford.

Swept Away is an incredibly tense, high-octane depiction of man's capacity to survive against the trials of nature.

A must watch IMO

 - Spy Game is next then

ps. for those that recommended The Departed, seen that and absolutely love it..
