Streaming to a 360

I struggled trying to connect my 360 to my pc. In the end just gave up. Would be useful if i could get it to work. Will give it another try when i get my 360 back from repair.

I've not really looked at that yet, does look better mind from what I seen mind...

Anyone else know?

I don't know about wireless, but if you take an ethernet cable ; attach one end into the xbox and the other end into the ethernet port in the back of your pc

Mess around on the control panel, and find the box that says "Share Connection" and put a tick next to it.

It should work then.

That doesn't help as I can connect me laptop to my TV with a HD cable...

Cheers for trying though :)

Use Windows Media Player to set it up, then it's easy. Make sure you have the latest version. make sure the xbox is on and the wireless is active. Go into Library then Media Sharing.

It should say something like "share my media to" and there'll be a picture of an xbox underneath. Click that and set it to "Allow."

The next part is the part i can't remember to well, but basically, you have to set Media Player to monitor whatever folders the files are in. I think it's library > more options > library tab> monitor folders.

Then, on the xbox, go into the video part and "change video source" to point to your PC. All video files you have in the folders that you've set to shared on media player should appear there.

Not the best explanation in the world, but it's easy to follow when you have the right things up on screen. And i also have no clue how you do it on this new xbox experience thing but assume it works the same.

Ditching Media Player and downloading Tversity is the best way manx, can stream all sorts of stuff that way.

I'm going to give Tversity a go.

I have configured WMP11 so that my xbox finds my computers when searching for music, but for some reason it doesn't find films - so what I've done is buy a usb memory stick & add my films on there, works fine.

The only problem with TVersity is it's not that easy to set it up for optimal performance. You have to fiddle with text config files. Especially with PS3 because if it supports certain types of file it's better to let the PS3 decode rather than the PC because it can do it far faster. Thankfully it does come with a standard config for all sorts of devices, but to get it to work best you need to fiddle a bit.

To you guys this may be a really stupid question. But here goes.

If i link up my XBox to my PC (media player as i dunno what tversity is!) then will what ever i'm streaming on my xbox also show up on the computer or can someone else watch/listen to something else at the same time?

I'm using Tversity for Video/Pictures and WMP for my Windows Media Library (mp3). More convenient as my Library is catalogued with auto playlists/genre/ratings/etc and the like. Best way IMO.

I don't bother with them... what good do they do?

Use it all the time, just your own tunes instead of the games soundtrack. Goes quiet when it needs to (like for cutscenes and dialog), good for racing and sports games.

Basically it doesn't impede your gaming experience. I love music though.... you may not really use it.

Weaste: Have they sorted this feature out for PS3 yet?

Ahh.. I used it on the original 360, it's good yeah, but I'll just play music through my Ispeakers or laptop.

Hmmmm, you can build playlists with TVersity. As for the rest, the PS3 will organise your music in whatever way you want as long as the MP3s are properly tagged.

True but mine is already catalogued in WMP so why do it again? It's taking me years. I have autoplaylist that compile top 10s/20s/50s by rating, playcount, mood, genre, DJ...

Don't even think you can do that with TVersity and if you can it will take you fcuking ages!

It's in the firmware, but it's up to the developer to use it. WipEout HD allows it for example (from the HDD, not over DNLA).

Yes, that's what I mean. I think you can do it, but the music can't be streamed. PS3 is still a bit lacking with things like that but I still prefer it overall.

Not much in it though.

Yeah, makes sense. Wouldn't be any more beneficial for you than your current set-up.
