England opening batsman Andrew Strauss is prepared to miss the final Test in Pakistan to be at the birth of his first child.

Strauss' wife Ruth is due to give birth on 28 November, a day before the third Test begins in Lahore.

"I have always believed there are some things in life that are more important than cricket.

"This, for me, is one of them and the England management have been very supportive," he said.

Captain Michael Vaughan missed part of a Test against West Indies at Headingley in 2004 to be at the birth of his first child, daughter Tallulah Grace.

His wife Nichola is expecting another baby in December, but Vaughan has said he will stay with the touring party this time.

Andrew Flintoff and wife Rachel are also expecting their second child this winter but Flintoff has not yet made a decision on whether he will be there.

The all-rounder missed a one-day international to be at baby Holly's birth in 2004.

Strauss has not missed a Test since hitting a century on debut against New Zealand at Lord's 17 months ago.

He has scored 1716 runs in 19 matches at an average of 50.47.

England begin their tour of Pakistan in earnest on Monday, beginning a three-day game against a PCB Patron's side in Rawalpindi.

The first Test starts in Multan on 12 November.
