Giggs
Keane
Scholes
Beckham
If anyone is a stat man I bet if you looked at all the games those four started in midfield our win ratio would be very high.
So all we need is cover for injuries to Becks and Giggs and a world class C/B or 2

agreed, it's frustrating when your "best" is so rigid with no room for injury (as the end of this season proved)

It's also no coincidence that the midfield has had to work harder to cover our at times frail defence.
To add to this the four mentioned know each others game they play almost telepathic passes bred in by the one and only EC

If only we have sticked with these four from the first match to the last (of course except when one of them was injured), we will at least still be in the race for the PL championship now.

With Scholes form. We would have been fighting relegation

nonsense. if we'd played the above midfield from day one without chopping and changing it, ive no doubt we'd be sitting as premiership champions by now.

He was off form because he was dicked around for a good part of the season to accomodate Veron. Scholes is a brilliant player who should play CM.

Agree. Many people predict Scholes will be sacrificed when we signed Veron. They were right -- but in a different way. Scholes didn't completely lost his place, but he was being placed everywhere in the midfield and forward. It is just impossible for anyone to raise his form if he was changing his position continuously throughout the whole season.

Pete "best nidfield"

Mmmmm... after trying to kick us off the park for 20 then you and your midfield did'nt get a kick for the remaining 70+ mins !!!!

Keane ( fantastic player )for all his efforts, Scholes , Veron et al spent the night chasing shadows

Admit it for Christ sakes
:)

I think our best ratio is with Nicky Butt. Today a midfield needs to defensive midfielders.

But we didn't play the line-up that Pete suggested.

He's saying - and I agree - that Becks, Scholes, Giggs, and Keane are the best midfield we have, and if played regularly from the start of the season, are - on previous performances together - the best in Europe.

Sorry Jopub. Beckham, Keane, Scholes, and Giggs, is still a mouthwatering line-up to me. I wouldn't swap one of them.

But if I was an Arsenal supporter I'm sure I would agree with you.

We'll review the situation next year, same time, same place OK? :)

Interesting one here Liv

Joint arse Man Utd dream team ?

Go on :

Mine is

...........Seaman

Neville...Keown...Sol.....Cole

........Vieira
................Keane
....Pires...........
......................Giggs

....RvNist....Henry

( Giggsy on top gear that is if not then Freddie)

( maybe a bit biased but not half a good side I'd say )

:)

Barthez
Neville Adams Blanc
Beckham Keane Vieira Veron Pires
Ljungberg
Van Nistelrooy

barthez - g neville, campbell, blanc, silvestre - beckham, keane, vieira, giggs - rvn, henry

A midfield of Figo, Zidane, Helguera and Makelele is up there I would say.

Shit, if we are doing a joint Arse-United lineup:

----------------------Barthez---------------------

-----Lauren--------------Blanc----------Silvestre

---------------Keane---------Vieira---------------

Beckham----------------Veron-----------------Pires

---------------Henry-----------Ruud---------------

:) Isn't this civilised.

Who could be added from the scouse except Hyypia?

giggs is better than pires ... imo

pires was outstanding until he did his knee, but giggsy´s done that for years

oh, and you never know how a player´s going to come back from the injury pires suffered ... i know players whove never been the same afterwards

btw, do you think were better than liverpool?

Jens : two things

I think Giggs although a greta talent on the biggest of stages often lacks bottle . I know you can point to great goals ets here and there BUT I stand by that .

Liverpool . Mmmmm.... they are much more difficult to beat than yous .

To be honest I could write a book about your question .

The very ethics of 'winning ' are thrown into the arena with this .

I watched George Graham give us a winning team PL's etc and half way through his reign I could'nt bare to watch it anymore , it was dreadful . As a club supporter you can feel great pride about victories and trophies but and I know I am unusual in this I am football lover first and close run Gooner second .

To be able to mix fantastic players playing brilliantly and delivering the prizes is the ultimate . And I think we could agree that both Man Utd and the Arse have achieved this over recent years .

Football for me is a beautiful game ( Brazil 70 the greatest of all )and when I watched GG's Arsenal side I was proud but a little embarrassed too to be honest . Liverpool now are going that way .

This is not to say that their tactics are not as difficult to execute as anything else - hence their laying in wait at the cup final last year when Owen mugged us with those two goals . Many say that's luck but defending is an art of course and to be able to take your only chance requires as much skill as anything else in the game

JAMMY BASTARDS :D

Trophies or beautiful football - you makes your choice .

To watch your side or us in full flow is just a wonder to behold and IMO worth more than a trophy won by a dogged season of 1-0 scraped away wins and 15 draws .

Don't get me wrong - Liverpool are a very very good side but ultimately in the crunch they revert to "go-one then beat us - you'll make some mistakes in trying - then we'll do you "!

That's not for me . I don't know if you remeber Swindon from what 6/7 seasons back . (I live in Wiltshire so they are near to me ).

They came up and played some would say , the most stupid football you could see . Every match they played had at least five goals in it and most 6 / 7 !! Normaly they lost 4/5-2 !! . Almost every game was like Tottnumb v Manutd . It was incredible to watch . EVERY game was fantastic .

Of course they went down like a lump of cement out of the sky ! BUT I can tell you the pride people round here feel from mixing it with the big boys , playing fantastic attacking football and producing wonderful games is amazing !

They felt as much pride about that as my GGraham side winning the PL . Truly

That ( Swindon)actually taught me something about football .

A great game does not have to be played by great sides - just the right attitude .

I won't go on all day although I could .

BUT give me watching Man Utd any day over Liverpool .

How would you feel if Man Utd won nothing but played as they do BUT Liverpool swept all before them year after year ??

You do have a point but I think it´s only natural that we prefer our players over others.

I don´t want the dippers to win anything but Utd are my priority and as long as we play as we do I´m happy. It´s a bit disappointing not to win 4 in a row but I think we´ve played some brilliant stuff since December and the performance is the thing that matters to me most. A trophy is a bonus.
