1. If not good enough for Sven, not good enough for United
2. Had to be accomadated everytime he played for England and did not make England a better side, to which I was glad
3. His shooting for Liverpool was terrible. We always had hope when he was one on one with the keeper
4. Not exactly in his prime and has been very fortunate to play with some of footballs greatest players at Madrid who would have made Gary Birtles look good. Please note Madrid have been trying to offload him since they got them, why should we take Madrids cast-offs.
5. 20 million for Ryan Giggs, a man who has given us 13 years at the top, over 500 games, some of our greatest memories as Man Utd supporters. He is not yet thirty and has 3-4 good years ahead. You cant replace genius. 20 million won't buy much these days.</strong><hr></blockquote>
I opened this dicussion to see peoples views, personally I am not 100% convinced either way, but just to pick up on a few points you made: MacManaman has been excellent for Madrid, maybe not so for England, though he was good under Venebals, but Giggs has not exactly set the world alight with Wales. The main criticism I would level amd most people also would is that MacManaman is not a great finisher or crosser, but even us as United fans would also have to agree with that criticism when it is levelled at Giggs, they are both at their best taking players on. The fact it looks like he won't play international football again would be a bonus for whichever club signed him, and this nonsense about him not playing well at international football- look at J Barnes, I Wright- players who were top notch and successful with their clubs but not so for England, remember our catain at the start of this successful campaign Steve Bruce never played for England but was mighily impressive for us. You say we don't want Real Madrid cast offs, Cantona, Silvestre, Blanc were not regulars at their previous clubs. If Giggs ever does leave United (and he is the one making ambigious statements of late) ideally we would want more than 20 mill, but in todays market big clubs don't have the money anymore.
I think the ideal scenario to this arguement would be to see Ryan regain his form and stay with us.
