If you like the last statistics thread, I'm going to start the one for the next season.

What stats would you like to have in the thread?

I thought about using whoscored.com and stats from each game, but only passing stats should be enough, right?

And I want to spam the thread. Every player should have something like this:

I don't really want to have a statfest, so I thought just passing stats would be ok, but I know all the individual stats would be much better... we'll see.

If you're gonna have a statfest might as well go the whole hog and include clearances, interceptions, tackles and "key passes" (whatever the hell they are)

Passes that directly lead to a goal scoring opportunity.

There is little point in just doing a passing stat thread, it seems a little unfulfilling.

It would be probably be best to do a weekly article type thread picking out the best/most interesting performances for United by way of statistics and then just put a link to the whoscored.com's Man Utd page for those who want to have a look in greater detail.

Nice one Maciek, you do a good job with these each year.

Pass completion would be great (including total passes made)

I tend to end up defending stats in threads like this but that's a particularly useless one. I'm guessing any pass that leads to a shot at goal from 30 yards out counts as a "key pass" but a beautiful through ball inside the full-back which gets the winger to the by-line does not? Meh.

True Pogue

Stats are flawed, especially the more linear and isolated ones that we fans have access to but I find them an interesting debating point. Assist stats are also at times uninspiring i.e. Ashley Young got two assists against Arsenal for twice being fouled for freekicks that led to a goal.

That said, if a player is consistently getting assists and making key passes then it is safe to assume that they are not simply lucky.

A lot of people deride stats while being wholley assured in their own opinion but it is my perception that even linear statistics hold more value than one persons subjective opinion (at least the opinions of us fans). Footballing statistics are a reflection of reality defined by predetermined perameters, the statistics that we have access to certainly don't tell the whole story but I think they have a general correlation to the truth.

It would be interesting to have access to the full Prozone stats that many professional clubs including United use.

In one of Anderson threads you can see this:

I think it's good idea and maybe we should have this in the statistics thread for every player.

This is what I mean, Evra's and Anderson's 2011-12 season:

Code:
| Patrice [B]EVRA[/B] |●I●●●●●R●●●●●●R●○●●●●R●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●R○●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●
| [B]ANDERSON[/B] |●●●●●○●R●●●○●●RR●IIIIIIIIIII☼☼☼IIIIIIIII○☼IIIIIIIIIIII

● - started, ☼ - sub appearance, ○ - bench, x - fit, but didn't make the "18"
R - rested, I - injured, S - suspended

Is it a waste of time or not?

Yes, because that's how it's going to be, the second one.

And I added United's fixture list.
