Dutch defender Jaap Stam wants to return to Manchester - to sign for Kevin Keegan's City.

The former Manchester United defender is currently at cash-strapped Italian club Lazio, but intriguingly wants to join United's oldest enemy.

"I know there is interest in me in Italy from Inter, AC Milan and Juventus," said Stam.

"But the biggest interest is in England, particularly Manchester City, and that is a move that would really appeal to me," Stam added in the Sunday Mirror.

Liverpool and Newcastle are also reportedly interested in Stam.

United claim they are still owed £12million by Lazio and so the Rome club would not block any realistic bid by Manchester City.

Sunday Mirror....reliable or not?

yep... seen it <a href="http://www.football365.com/All_News/Breaking_News/story_47344.shtml" target="_blank">here </a> also.

Have a look at the Dudek look-a-like on the right of the page <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

The man is driven by spite and revenge now. Let him go there, if he wants. At least that way he'll have Anleka in the same team as him and he won't get roasted by him again. Well, only in training perhaps.

I'd love to see him form a partnership with Sun Jihai. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

Are you blaming Stam for it??? It wasn't his fault he left you!

You can first thank Sir Alex for making United a very strong team, but after that you can also blame him that he was the 1 that also ruïned that team...

If Alex just could've taken a little bit of critism United were still a very strong side, which they apparently aren't anymore...

Another fact ppl seem to forget about Stam leaving.
He signed the contract that ceased him being a Utd player. Fergie opened the door for him but he ran out (with his signing on fee in his arse pocket) himself.
Fergie was going to be gone in 9 months, he could have stuck around and rode the storm.

i remember having one of my longest arguments on here about stam with the majority saying the guy was a legend even though he was only here three years and was injured for nearly of third of that time!

do people still have the same opinion on him because while i never thought he was a legend i had fond memories of the guy but now he is going right down hill in my opinion.

if you read keanes book (he dosnt go into great detail) but what he says about stam was that he RELIED ON HIS PACE TOO MUCH BECAUSE HE COULDNT READ THE GAME VERY WELL, HE ALSO SAYS THAT HE COULDNT QUITE CUT IT AGAINST THE BEST FORWARDS IN THE WORLD.

That's bull! When Stam played for United he was the best defender in the world, and Keane knows it!

You just can't blame Stam for goin' away. Do you expect from the best defender in the world(at that time), that he's going to keep the bench warm, and only because the trainer can't take a little critism??

If you do, you're crazy....

And Alex Fergusen just wouldn't admit that he let Stam sit on the bench because of his book. After that he made a real fool out of himself. He said that he needed to give a younger defender the chance of playin' in defence. The 1st thing he did was buying Blanc
You can't exactly say that Blanc is a young defender <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" />

Then he said that Wes Brown could learn more from Blanc, then from Stam. That's crap! The only thing he could learn more from Blanc then from Stam is making stupid mistakes and how to miscommunicate with other players in you're team...

Alex Furgeson has done great things for Manchester United. He's achieved a lot, but in last 2/3 years he has ruïned his own achievement.
Beginning with sellin' Stam....

He should've left at least 2 years ago, he's only ruïnin' his own reputation right now....

i wouldnt have thought someone like JOS or Wes could learn a great deal from Stam, as the man relied on his pace and strength. blanc relies on his brain and his reading of the game. therefore in my onion he would be a better mentor then the Bald Chjaap....

...oh! hang on, scratch that, my mistake, am crazy after all. <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

wish he'd make his mind up!
