Now finally with a bona fide #9 and some depth in midfield. They'll have to contend with the Europa League so it'll be interesting to see how they get on. I really like Udogie at left back (made light work of marking Garnacho last time around) and Porro going forward is something else. Having a focal point will get more out of both.

I'm still not sold on the media lovefest around Postecoglou but they're certainly not dull to watch.

What is their best XI?

-----------------------------Vicario
Porro--------Romero---------vdV-----Udogie
-----------?---------Bentancur----?
Kulusevski-------Maddison-----Son
------------------------Solanke

Who is partnering Bentancur from Bergvall, Sarr, Bissouma and Gray? At least they've got some depth and some interesting young talent.

Definitely Bissouma to have that defensive option there. But their backup midfield of Sarr, Bergvall and Gray is quite nice too. Backup front 3 of Johnson, Richarlison and Werner is much better depth then they usually have. Can see them having a very good season now with Solanke to be a steady #9.

Johnson will start but we are still looking at wingers. Kulusevski has probably been our best player in pre-season but he's not played on the right at all, he's been playing 8/10 and striker. Bergvall has been very impressive and arguably should be starting but I imagine he'll be eased in.

Their squad is better than ours. First team we probably edge it.

I think they have bought fantastic youth prospects. Sarr, Bergvall, Gray, Van de Ven, Udogie, Kulusevski.

But have not really improved their starting 11 from last season, they have not brought in a marquee signing that is going to take them to another level. So I would imagine around the same as last season for where they finish on the table, anywhere from 4th - 7th.

Maybe Maddison plays as a #8 or they play two #10s with a holding mid behind them cause I think Johnson starts on the right.

It's a good first 11 for sure. However everyone saw they ran out of gas badly from March last season. After beating us 4-0 at Villa Park they won just 4 of their last 11 games and those wins were against the three relegated + Forest.

I'm not sure how well they'll cope with Angeball playing Thursday-Sunday as once injuries hit the backups are o.k but not top level.

6th-7th I think.

Udogie is a great player and would've been in my team of the year as for such a good attacking full back he's also a rarity in defending well one on one so they'll be CL contenders wanting him before too long. Not sure if he's back from injury yet so LB will be a problem in opening weeks as a drop off having to play Ben Davies or a CB there.

He's back training and might play today(we're playing Bayern again). As it stands Spence is probably RB and LB cover, he's another who has had a strong pre-season and seems to have played his way back in from out of nowhere.

Djed Spence is still at Spurs?!

The biggest question with Spurs is really just how much flex Ange is able to show and whether he has more clubs in his bag than the system he relied upon last year. I feel like the jury is really still out on Ange, whether he is a folksy bullshitter who has only one way to play or whether he's a legit top level manager who appreciates all aspects of the game but was just trying to lay some tactical and cultural foundations last season.

The bottom line is that Spurs have to be able to win games in different ways than just blitzing their opponents with the high press and then pushing both fullbacks into the pockets high and inside when they have the ball. You can't keep up that intensity over the course of the year, especially playing twice a week. And inverting both fullbacks is easy on the eye as you have great numerical superiorities in the center of the pitch but just suicidal football in the end. Spurs have a legitimately top level CB pairing in Van de Ven and Romero and yet they were 14th in the PL in XG allowed last year. Those two facts together show that the system is really broken from a standpoint of defensive organization.

He will not change his style. In line for a few thumpings at the hands of the top teams. Feel they can cause anyone trouble though and will get enough results to put them about where they were last season. Have not really signed anyone that will take them to the next level.

What they are assembling however is a very exciting prospect, bringing in a lot of highly rated youth players. But you will not see the results for a couple of years.

Even then, can Spurs hang onto them? Real already looking at Romero. If Bergval fulfills his potential he will be gone to a big club for big $$$, like Bale or Modric.

Is Udogie back for season starter for Spurs and ready to play 90 mins, or will he be eased in after last years injury?

Seemed obvious last season they lacked quality on the flanks but I guess Son looking like his legs have gone up front changed their plans

I think they're trying to sign a wide player, its just not a great market. They reportedly were interested in both Neto and Doue. When those two are the top options you identify, it shows that pickings are kind of thin.

As with every other big English club, I don't understand why they didn't make a serious push for Olise.

Bissouma filmed himself doing nitrous balloons a few days before the start of the season. Clever chap.

Might be a blessing in disguise as outside of a goat-level run of about eight games, he's been pretty average otherwise. Good chance for Bentancur to play his way back into form or maybe Gray gets a chance right from the start.

I really like Ange, apart from his inability to compromise on his naive tactics. I can't see them drastically improving unless he changes that. In fact more likely the players will lose faith in it sooner or later and the performances will drop off similar to the run in last season.

Every opponent has also now had a year of scouting Ange-ball and I think you'll see more and more teams picking them of, because if you get the organisation right they really don't make it that hard.

If he gets a bit more resilience and adaptability into the team shape and set up then I think they've got the players to have a good season though.

Although of course he's still got the Spurs mentality to try and overcome. If your own fans actively want you to lose because they've got so little faith/concern with their own team that they prioritise wanting to cheer Arsenal not winning, and that transfers to the mentality of the club, players, etc. then there's not really much you can do with that.

Absolute RKO of a signing, not a single link and then bam, announced.

Profiles well as the kind of winger we want but obviously nowhere near the finished article.

He's going to be a top player. Done well to keep that under the radar.

It's how transfers should be done. Brilliant that none of the journos/influencers had a clue.

They’ve got some good depth - particularly in forward areas now but I don’t think they’ve really improved their starting XI.

Solanke’s obviously the marquee signing but I’m really not sold on him. Good season for Bournemouth last year but he really does have it all to prove at a team with European aspirations.

I wonder what odds you'd get on Solanke getting less goals this year in the PL.

Romero is one of the bigger frauds in the game. Watch him on the goal, running around like a headless chicken doing everything except actually marking the most dangerous man on the other side who is standing right in his area of responsibility. All action, no brains.

I realize they are top talents but something is way off with their squad if Ange is bringing on two 18-year-old midfielders for PL debuts in a hostile environment to try to win a match. I guess Bissouma was suspended but four senior midfielders and two 18-year-olds with no PL experience still seems thin for a team playing three in midfield.

Solanke, Johnson, Werner and Richarlison don't blow me away. You can usually trust Son and I usually like Kulusevski

Theyre mediocre in forward areas, Solanke’s the sort of okay but nothing special type of talent they regularly signed in their Damien Commoli days
