Sports that shouldn't be in the Olympics?

Kinda the opposite to your question but I always thought that if Archery is a sport worthy of Olympic status then darts should be too.

If you don't like the drinking culture that goes with it, don't serve drinks at the event, pretty simple.

Football, or the contrived men's version at the very least.

Tennis

Golf, which is to be introduced in Rio.

The usual suspects i guess.

Both sports where you need a few quid to even start off in.

Who would you say views these two Olympics with higher regard and has invested the greater commitment in the performance they'll give, the likes of Ben Ainslie/the GB Eventing team or David De Gea and Andy Murray?

Dressage. It's like Crufts for horses.
If you honestly believe that you know absolutely nothing about dressage.

I understand completely if people not personally involved find it boring, but comparing it to Crufts is akin to regarding football as 'grown men running about kicking a bladder around'.

It's a fantastic sport, but I agree it's certainly not a spectator sport for the uninitiated.

I reckon they could jazz up the fencing by making them do part of it on a staircase with some bonus points available if you get the chandelier on the rope to fall near your opponent. A table piled with goblets and food should be made available for leaping onto as well..

And in costume. The Scarlet Pimpernel for GB. Zorro for the pueblo de Los Angeles.

Not sure why beach volleyball has made it yet surfing and 5 a side footie and rugby sevens haven't.

Surfing is too unpredictable, there is already football. Rugby sevens is something though I feel should be there.

Tell you what though, you'd almost bet your house on Tiger Woods winning the gold in Golf in four years time. As much as he's been a bit rubbish lately, I reckon a good few would crack under the pressure of playing not only alongside him, but for the competition they can only win once every four years. Normally they only have to contend with the tiger factor which is hard enough.

Here's an action shot from yesterday's heats :

That's the problem. No one knows wtf is going on. I struggle to understand how such a niche sport made it in while stuff like golf and squash didn't.

Men's football and tennis because they're too professional. Equestrian‎ and maybe sailing because they're not universal/accessable enough. And one of volleyball and beach volleyball.

Stick squash, darts, karate, some roller-sport, chess and tug of war in.

Basketball
Football
Tennis

Because the players are some of the richest athletes in the world and the olympics are but a mere sideshow. Basketball is especially farcical because the American's win it almost everytime, simply because no other countries really give two shits about basketball.

Dressage
Shooting
BMX

In fact the only events IMO that should be included are: all track and field events, all swimming events, all cycling events and all gymnasitc events.

Football
Tennis
Dressage (whatever that's meant to be)
Rowing
Sailing

I was being disingenuous, but I don't see how it has its place in the Olympics. The horses aren't even from or bred in their respective countries.

Tennis, football, golf, cycling road race and time trial. Basically any event for which the Olympics does not represent the pinnacle of the sport.

Anything that requires equipment other than shoes/gloves except throwing events.

I don't think any sport where athletes can't have access to the same equipment (horses) should be in the olympics. Or if that's impossible, draw the horses before the event.

I'm not keen on sports where developing nations obviously have no chance, like dressage or sailing. Running, throwing, lifting etc. are more universal. And if something does need equipment it shouldn't be anything to inacessable.

What the feck is dressage? That sounds like something that goes on a salad to make it taste good. If it's the sport with horses then I agree.

So you don't like swimming then? Very few pools in Africa. Probably more of them in LA alone.

I hate swimming. It's a sport of doping and you can't actually see anything. On the upside, people love seeing fit (though mostly ugly, the bronze medalist british woman is awfully ugly) people in bathing suits. And they can fixate on meaningless records. Athletics are not much better.

Both have a place in the olympics though.

Darts should be in there but would it have to be done like that World Cup of darts tournament rather than a individual event? otherwise there would be a huge amount of Brit players.

And they should keep the drinking culture it adds to the fun although it probably wouldn't really be a issue when the Olympics are not in the UK

Rich people buy awfully expensive horses, hire a trainer for it then their children sit on those horses whose good behaviour is judged by a panel of rich people.

That's the olympic spirit!
