I'm asking this because apparently an event like the Modern Pentathlon [which has quite the Olympic heritage] is under threat.

Competing to take their place are:

Twenty20 Cricket
Baseball and Softball which have been recently removed for 2012.
Rugby 7s

We already know of the obvious remaining candidates, football, tennis e.t.c.

Out of just those five sports that i've mentioned, i can personally only accept/support two being taken into consideration. Softball and Rugby 7s.

For the others it is merely a stepping stoe in the calendar or a money earner, so not worthy. If Blatter had any self-respect or feels some for the game, he'd remove football unilaterally IMO. But hey, it's Blatter we're talking about here.

Rugby is gay

Where's the real avid Rugby fans on here?

FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT...;)

I said Rugby 7s because as so understand it, it is fairly different and apart from the regular game. As a result the Olympics could serve as the pinnacle of the sport in terms of competitions. Not ideal in some ways though i freely admit.

However, i'd have none of them in there ahead of Modern Pentathlon or a new event at the Games like Open Water swimming. Shouldn't even be up for debate IMO.

you could definately get rid of u23 olympic football. Even though its my favourite 'event' as it has been said it should be the pinnical of the sport. The Football world cup is already bigger then the olympics so whats the point other then to give young players a tighter schedule and get the FA's upset.

LOL.....gay is the very last word that would apply to rugby, seriously.

Doesn't make one bit of difference to mainstream rugby. Far more manly than the softass NFL, who need $2000 of safety equipment to take a hit.

The most expensive piece being a steel helmet that you can spear each other with

This thread subject is so confusing. You no what I mean?

If you can have softball, i dont see a problem with rugby, cricket or golf.

They should really have snooker and darts - two guaranteed gold’s for Britain there.

Another twat who hasn`t the first fecking clue about the game. So many un-educated fecktards on this forum.

football
cricket
tennis
rugby

non of these have a place in the olympics and it would be a travesty for the modern pentathlon to be replaced by say 20/20 cricket. Olympics is all about these types of sports that you wouldnt normaly watch and whos biggest event is the olympics.

All of the above sports have much bigger stages and should be left to those stages

True, but if Softball does, then so should Cricket, Tennis etc.

The Olympic motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius - Faster, Higher, Stronger. So i think any sports that are in it should relate to the motto.

A question.
I am watching Taekwondo right now. Do you have to train for this thing? It looks piss easy

i'm thinking you turn up and have a go without training??

maybe you'll find out

For what its worth i agree with the sentiment of various posters who believe that the olympics should be the very the very pinnacle of the sport and so football, tennis etc shouldn't be involved as these sports have much higher profile competitons whereas the track and field competitors basically work towards th eolympics every 4 years - this isn't the case with some of the other olympic events and to me that takes something away from the games. I mean who remembers who wins the football medals or tennis??

Cameroon won in 2000... i was there... it was gold (excuse the pun)

I quite enjoyed watching Rowing at the olympics

Should remove football and tennis. T20 at the olympics would be nice. We'll get at least one silver every olympics.

:wenger:That is not a proper sport, let alone an olympic sport.

Reduce all sports that rely on judging to be exhibition rather than competitive - boxing, diving, gymnastics, etc. Also, there's too much swimming - just have freestyle. And just one type of volleyball (doesn't matter which).

All these events which are scored souly by a panel of judges can feck off.

It's not a proper sport if the scores are decided purely by opinion

How about racewalking? I just turned on the tv and it was on. I got mad just seeing it on tv. It is not a sport, it's what old people do to stay in shape.

Agreed. Silly.

I would add pistol shooting.

Also the equestrian stuff. If they must have it, the medals should go to the horses, not the baggage.

All events that involve a vehicle should be outlawed from the Olympics imo
