Right. I have a Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz and a ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB and 4 GB RAM.

Can I run this beast of a game?

Wow I have literally the exact same stuff. Runs smooth on very nearly max settings EXCEPT for me at least it crashes all the time randomly with highish settings. This happens to me for a lot of games so assuming you don't get the crashes you'll be able to play it almost at max.

Heh... what are the odds. So do I. Bought it a few years back and was worried it might not be able to run this smoothly but it does. Mostly on max to which is surprising.

On my former gaming rig I have a Athlon X2 4,2ghz and a Radeon 4850 512mb, 4gb ram and I was able to play most games on high quality settings in 1680*1050 until I replaced it about a year ago. That includes Oblivion, FO3/NV who pretty much got the same engine as Skyrim. The trick in newer games is to disable/lower shadows, if that isn't enough, lower resolution and get rid of the anisotropic filtering(af) and anti-aliasing(aa).

Do you disable shadows? On my 4850 card disabling shadows usually made it possible for me to use the rest of the settings on max in games in a playable fps around 30-40.

Running it on a Core 2 duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz and a GeForce 8600 GT 256MB and 4GB RAM.

Lowest settings, but still quite low FPS in close combat. Due to the shit computer my view distance is very short too, which leads to other problems when trying to sneak around. But it runs ok and I can live with it for now.

Managed to pass minimum req on "Can I Run It" with a Radeon HD 4550,Core Duo E7300(OC to 3.0gz) And 3GB DD2 ram

I passed the minimum requirements too with a Q6600 quad core and 8800 GTX but stil opted for the 360 version.

If you do get it, remember to disable the 360 controller in game - unless you want to use one of course. Improves performance.
