Juan Pablo Sorin has officially asked to tear up his contract with Lazio, confirmed the Players’ Association.

“Sorin has made an urgent request to the League,” explained AIC lawyer Ottorino Giugni. “The tribunal must set a date for before January 31 to discuss rescinding his contract.”

The entire squad started legal action against the club for unpaid wages on December 23, but all the players except Sorin put a stop to the move after three out of the outstanding six months were paid.

Sorin is only at the Biancocelesti on loan until January 31. His former club Cruzeiro must receive £6.6m for the Argentine international or face a fine of £1.3m.

There are reports that the defender has been linked to Manchester United, Newcastle and Milan.

The World Cup star was brought in this summer, but has failed to make an impact in the first team under Coach Roberto Mancini
