The patent describes a one-handed controller whose absolute xyz position and rotation in space can be determined. It merges a variety of inputs to determine that information, including:

1) Ultrasound to determine absolute depth from an ultrasonic detector (i.e. the PSEye microphone array), and to determine distance between two controllers in your hands, and/or between multiple player controlers

2) An array of LEDs picked up by the PSEye camera to determine absolute X/Y position (with support from microphone array and ultrasound signals using triangulation), as well as information about the controller's location relative to your body etc.

3) Accelerometer in the controller to determine xyz and rotational inertia

The patent describes replaceable face plates, and a two controller face plate to provide 'traditional' DS controls, and also various configurations like pluggging two together.

I can't wait for the day I get to perform an overhead kick in my front room and break every bone in my body! Hopefully the game would be realistic enough that the computer version of me would also 'Saha' themselves

It looks crazy Weaste, then again pre Wii I thought that controller was mental and wouldn't ever work, and it does brilliantly. I don't quite understand why Sony and Microsoft haven't come up with some kind of common motion controller to try and hit Nintendo's market share earlier

I envisage a small population of people suing Sony for that unless the devise carries a health warning.

If I could perform a bicycle kick like that I'd be playing for United not on the Playstation!

I suppose Brad that they can't use the technology that Wii is using, because I suppose that Nintendo have the patent for that. So they've been messing around with this ultrasound idea.

I don't know how this is going to work though unless they bundle the thing and the PS Eye with new PS3s and force developers to support the new controller as well as DS3.

It depends what patents they have, which I don't know. They can't patent the idea of a motion controller, so my original thought still stands, I'm suprised they haven't come out with something else earlier

If this system works as well as that has though, and you can genuinely play full motion in the game, that's a giant leap and is gunna make for some shit hot gaming

 That's fecking crazy, but cool nonetheless. Wonder what the Wii has up it's sleeve.

If i could od a bicycle kick like that for the game i should be outside running around a feild. I play games to sit down and relax, not to work up a sweat. Same reason i don't like the Wii (unless drunk)
