Ole Gunnar take United chance ^top
Manchester United ace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has pledged to erase his "supersub" tag as he prepares to start the season as first choice striker.
The Norwegian international has been at Old Trafford since 1996 after joining The Reds in a bargain £1.5m deal from Molde.
However, after spending each of the last six season living in the shadows of the likes of Eric Cantona, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ruud van Nistelrooy, he is finally set to emerge as first-choice striker in manager Sir Alex Ferguson's line-up.
"Every time the club have bought a new striker I have seen it as a new challenge," he said.
"When Dwight arrived from Aston Villa people said I might leave. When Ruud signed last season they said the same.
"But I have always been happy here and never thought about moving.
"I have always gone into a season believing in myself, always thinking when I get a chance I will prove myself, if I find my form the manager can't leave me out.
"I am not a supersub and don't want to be remembered as one. But I have never been fed up about the number of games I get. It is just part of being at Manchester United. You get used to it. I have never thought I can't win my place back, that's it, I want to leave."
Speaking to the News of the World, Solskjaer said he was now ready to claim a regular United starting shirt.
"People don't realise but I have actually scored more goals from a starting position than I have as a sub," he added.
"I am ready to play more games now than I used to. That is what I have always wanted.
"Last year I started 30 or so games for United, plus 17 as sub, so I am feeling good and ready to play more.
"That's why I am so excited about the new season."
And Solskjaer has pledged to make the most of his chance alongside van Nistelrooy, as United seek to avenge last season's trophy-less campaign.
"Last term promised a lot, but we just didn't deliver and that hurt like hell. Watching Arsenal win the Double was a massive disappointment for us," he said.
If you play for United you expect to win silverware and after last year we are hungry again.
"We know we have to improve to regain the title. Nobody here is happy winning just one title, we want them all."
he fully understands waht it means to be a uni8ted player, never complained just got on with his job.
