...who makes way?

You can't bring a big name striker in without guaranteeing him games.

Therefore, if he plays up front with Ruud, we have to drop someone from midfield.

Or else he plays up front alone, and we drop Ruud.

So I don't see a big name striker being a feasible option.

Also, if we get a big name striker in the summer, like Cisse or Ronaldinho, plus someone like Bellion now, then a striker would have to be sold in the Summer too, as we can only have 4.

Possible players we could buy now, like Fowler, would be tried out with Ole or Forlan or Scholes alternatively, but particularly with Scholes I would think.

Cisse or Ronaldinho would have to play with Ruud if fit, and I can see Ronaldinho playing in a 4-4-1-1 instead of Scholes, who'd have to play in midfield, in rotation with Veron. But I'm not sure about a Cisse and Ruud front line, I'm sure they'd get goals, no doubt, but I'm not sure how much they would create for each other or link the play - Cisse would be better as cover for Ruud, but he's too good to be just that.

Ok, but don't you think that at this moment we have only 3 midfielders performing well (Veron, Keane and Beckham)??

Don't be daft.

Keane is only just back and isn't quite himself yet - and you can't say Scholes hasn't been performing well.

That's the problem.

You don't sign a Shevchenko or Ronaldinho to put them on the bench.. a frontman less Ruud would have to make way.

Somemore there's this tiny matter of adapting into the team with half the season left. Anyone remembered Newcastle, 12pts ahead at one time, and Faustino Asprilla? ;)

Having said all these BS, Fergie please, sign a frontman!!!! <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Ok, Scholes, Veron and Beckham. They are still 3!

IMO Keane is playing well, at least when we have the ball

Fergie has made it obvious that he prefers a 4-5-1, or 4-4-1-1 formation.

He has only resorted to 4-4-2 because of injury problems.

So can the supporters of 4-5-1 etc. please wade in with their opinion on what happens to the midfield if we sign a top striker.

I'd be tempted to go 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2, I think it would suit our personnel and style of play.

Barthez
Wes Rio O'Shea
Beckham Keane Veron Silvestre
Scholes
Ruud Cisse

or

O'Shea Wes Rio Silvestre
Beckham Keane Veron Giggs
Scholes or Forlan
Cisse

Ole would effectively become 4th choice striker though, but second choice right wing. Injuries though determine the side you actually put out, you rarely get the chance to put your first XI out.

I agree, we can play with three defenders, because our left and right backs don't attack too much (like Roberto Carlos and Cafu). And the tactics always change in the matches, the players are not always in the same sector of the field.

Third choice perhaps. I still think he's better than Forlan.

And in your second choice, you've dropped Ruud.

The ideal answer would be to sign someone who isn't a big name - yet.

The latter was if Ruud is injured, or rested. Ole doesn't play the link role, he's always the forward most striker, thats why Scholes is being preferred to him for that role. I think Forlan might also be preferred in the link role to Ole, as when they both play together, thats what they do.

you know what, ive a sneaking suspicion we might sign someone like Batigol on loan till the end of the season..

Has it been tried?

i think w/ the massive fixture schd in england having a 1 and 1a striker is fine. but i agree w/livvie a big name would want games. cisse maybe less than say shev due to his age. but just look at the number of games in all comps. i think you'd have room without too much bitching.
