Since it's become the new cool spot to go, I figured i'd dip into here and have my fellow caffers teach me the basics, and advance levels, of the game.

It's simple really.

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.

Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.

When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.

Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in.

There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.

When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that's the end of the game.

Remind me... Is there any "shaking all about" involved?

They don't lose on penalties being the major difference.

You would need a fine selection of pipe tobacco, a bottle of Highland Park (21 year old) and Oscar Wilde to explain the beauty and complexity of cricket.

Also players dont say F*cking disgrace on live Tele.:lol:

Apparently Warney and McGrath had a few sprays when they were playing.

People do get called monkeys as well!

Its like this Ando.

1 team of 11 stand out in the middle of the pitch. This is what we call the "fielding" side. Much like the fielding side in baseball.

There job is to get the batsman on the other team out for as little runs as possible.

On the opposition team, they have their 11 players. 2 batsman must be at the crease 'long yellow/white/brown strip in the middle' at one time. So being in sides of 11, only 10 wickets need to fall.

The point of a batsman 'the same as a batter in Baseball' is to get as many runs as possible without getting out. Unlike baseball however, the batsman is out there until either they get out, retired 'hurt or otherwise' or the team declares.

For batters there are milestones at 50, 100 and then every 100 there after.

To get out there are several different means.

Bowled

Caught 'can also be caught by the bowler'

Stumping

LBW

Run Out.

Couple of other ways but thats the most common.

And well for a batting master class, you can't beat this.

In recent years, Australia have declined some what, but are still one of the best teams in the world. Prior to 07, they were almost unbeatable.

I thought that this might come in handy for when you're listening to the commentators >>

Really really beg to differ there!

South Africa, India and Sri Lanka I feel have totally overtaken the Aussies in tests as well as ODIs.

Talking test Cricket here....

How are South Africa better than Australia?

Australia convincingly beat South Africa in South Africa just a few month ago. They also beat them 3-0 in Australia at the start of the year.

As for India, well Australia were beaten by India in India last year, but India also lost to NZ recently.

Sri Lanka are looking good against a poor Pakistan team.

IMO, Australia are still Number 1 and the test rankings will tell you the same.
