Walter Crickmer started it all...
A young United squad left Manchester on Saturday for Slovakia where they will play two friendly games.

The Reds have made this trip for a few years now and it appears to be good experience for all concerned, not only playing local teams but providing coaching sessions in the area too.

Here is the official website announcement:

Here are some photos of the players coaching yesterday:

The first game is tonight v MFK Ruzomberok U/17 at Stadion MFK Ruzomberok at 17:30 CET

Then on Wednesday we play AC Sparta Prague at NTC Poprad at 16:00 CET.

Will try to post match details as they become available.

Team v Mfk Ruzomberok
Dorrington, Scott, Reid, Williams, Tuanzebe, Thompson, Riley, Redmond, Croskery, Gribbin, Rashford.
Subs Barrett, Byrne, Dearnley, Dunne, Gomes, Kenyon, Makela, McTominay, Mitchell, Rathbone, Thompson, Warren, Whelan.

Thompson looks handy. Thanks for posting the stream.

Not seen him (or Redmond) as CMs. Thompson normally plays LB or LW as far as I was aware.
His natural position is midfield as far as I know. Gribbin, Thompson and Riley have been very good and Rashford looks very good but a little greedy at times but a great dibbler and first touch.

That's Gribbin.

1. Dorrington
2. Scott
3. Tuanzabe
4. Williams
5. Reid
6. Thompson
7. Riley
8. Redmond
9. Croskery
10. Gribbin
11. Rashford

I think that's right

Cheers :)

Gribbin is a lovely player to watch.

He looks nice and comfortable with the ball at his feet, nice drops of the shoulder too for that cross where someone scissorkicked it over the bar.

The stream is beautiful too

Yep, and those deceptive turns of direction that seem so simple but effective.

Rashford reminds me a bit of Lingard.
Yeah he looks like a pacier and slightly more flashy version of Lingard from what Ive seen of him. Looks very 2 footed as well

Seeing Gribbin feels a bit like seeing Wilson for the first time. Left-footer who glides past people.

Hope to see Makela in the second half. Heard great things.

McTominay on for Reid and Dearnley on for Williams. Thompson and Riley move into the full back positions and Scott into central defence

I read a year or so back that Rashford was the highest rated of the young academy kids. I think he was 14 at the time.

Gribbin looks excellent.

Number 14 who just came on is Angel Gomes who only recently turned 13

Both of the goals scored by Dearnley

3-0

Great performances from all the lads who came on really upped the tempo

That was confusing.

It really is remarkable to bring a fella who was 12 two months ago to an u17 "tournament" but there's clearly a lot of football in those little legs already.

It was incredible to watch. He and Dearnley also formed a good partnership.

How old is Gribbin?

Both him and Gomes looked like our best players.

You can see why there is a bit of hype around Gomes. It was a really enjoyable game.

If my name was Angel Gomes there would be a lot of hype surrounding my career too. Either in football or - more likely - porn.

Subs that played 12 McTominay 12 again 14 Gomes 15 Rathbone 16 Dearnley 17 Dunne 18 Whelan 19 Barrett 20 Lewis Thompson

Seems like along with a few of the under 18s who havent played that many games or missed pre season like Redmond we've basically decided to bring the best players in our academy regardless of age

Need to confirm all of this but here is what I have worked out:

1. Dorrington
2. Scott
3. Reid
4. Williams
5. Tuanzebe
6. J. Thompson (scored first after 19')
7. Riley
8. Redmond (c)
9. Croskery
10. Gribben
11. Rashford

12. McTominay (4) HT
12. Barrett/Warren (7) 56'
13. Byrne
14. Gomes (6) 65'
15. Rathbone (9) 56'
16. Dearnley (3) HT (scored twice on 71' and 78')
17. Dunne (5) 71'
18. Whelan (10) 71'
19. Barrett/Warren (2) 78'
20. L. Thompson (11) 65'

Not used: Kenyon, Makela, Byrne, Mitchell

Cheers jb, much appreciated.

Agree with the names mentioned above for praise - Gribben, Rashford, Dearnley, Gomes. But it was Thompson who really stood out for me. How old is he? He played like he had two years experience on anyone else on the pitch.

Subs
Dorrington, Gomes, Rathbone, Dunne, Gribbin, Warren, Barratt, Dearnley, Whelan, L. Thompson.
