Sleazy premiership footballer thread

There is an injunction on place. Until we know our legal position we will delete any and all speculation to protect ourslves.

I would think in a situation like this the cafe would be as much to blame as twitter or facebook are for the people spreading rumours in then. It's a social debate site, with individuals and their ideas, it's not like a newspaper or magazine with a strict editorial responsibility.

That said, nothing wrong with playing it safe I suppose.

So you poor mods have to be monitoring the whole caf to make sure no poster mentions his name?

Don't understand, he cant sue the internet, can he?

Better be safe than sorry. If it is found that his name or status is somewhat tarnished from a result of being mentioned by someone or some organisation (especially if he is not found guilty), they will act accordingly. I dont know that much about these kinda laws, so its just my guess.

And the trees newspapers are made of can't be sued either. Niall on the other hand can.

I dont remember anyone saying it was definitely him, they were literally just saying the rumors were him. Theres a difference.

There is.

But if it was my website I wouldn't take the risk.

Lawyers are very expensive and footballers/clubs have a lot of money.

Interesting case a few years ago when the owner of Sheff Wed pursued a fella who ran a blog just like this onw where some "anonymous" posters had posted some (allegedly) defamatory allegations against him.

He succesfully obtained a Court Order requiring the website owner to provide the IP addresses of the posters involved. Probably cost the poor bloke a fortune in court costs.

Its the same type of Order they use against Broadband companies to get the names/addresses of people downloading pirated stuff of the net - usually porn.

Apologies if someone has already mentioned this.
