Stop paying attention to this a while ago
This use to be the channel you just had to watch, it was easily the best back in it's day. Buffy, angel, stargate, Malcolm in the middle, the simpsons (when it was worth watching), wrestling(see simpsons) and futurama. If it was worth watching, they had it. Nowadays, if I'm watching sky one, it's because all the other channels have nowt on! What happened to it? How did the best channel on tv in it's day turn into what it is now?

Fox don't have any good shows left?

It's not as if Sky One ever produced good shows of their own anyway, except for those Terry Prachett adaptations.

Best channel on TV? Not even close. Used to watch it when I was kid for the Simpsons but grew out of that and nowadays its just FULL of American cack. My mrs likes it but apart from maybe Roadwars on occasion it bores me to tears.

Sky minus the terrestrial channels and Sky sports is pretty worthless when all's said and done. Even MTV2 has gone soft.

Sky1 was always the channel I watched for the simpsons and futurama.

And that was about it.

Then I got sky sports, and my world changed forever.

The fact that they've got HBO now might help, but I can't help but think they'll just do what they did with The Pacific and throw half their stuff on Sky Movies.

Perhaps a more potent question is: 'what happened to ITV?'

Prime time was amazing: play your cards right, catchphrase etc.

I watch the channel only for the football now.

Actually 101 is right, Gladiators used to be brilliant on ITV as well, they really have went downhill.

Well ITV seem to have decided that gameshows involving "normal" people is no longer a viable choice. So instead they have "celebrity" versions of gameshows instead.

Celebrity Family Fortunes and Celebrity Mr and Mrs being two that come to mind.

The only 2 decent programms that you just listed are Futurama and Simpsons. Everything else is/was gash.

Alot of programmes that are massive in the States are not given that much of chance here, on channels like Five, FX, Virgin etc. whereas they could send their audience figures sky high if they were put on a more esteemed channel - NCIS for instance gets 750,000 viewers on C5 here whereas in the United States on CBS it gets up to 20 million whilst Chuck on NBC gets 8 million viewers but in Britain it gets 200,000 on Virgin 1.

Sky One has alot of turgid programming but it has always picked up American imports and with 24 and Lost now finished it ought to look at programmes languishing on other British channels.

That's what Sky always do, wait for a show to do well then pick it up. House was on C5 for the first 4 series, Lost was on C4 for the first 2 and 24 was on BBC for the first 2 as well.

Yeah but NCIS is on there normal free channels, there are a lot of factors that go into ratings. Chuck does pretty damn well over actually, more so than it's somewhat below average ratings on primetime NBC.

The fact that you can get these shows in like 20 minutes downloading now doesn't remotely help their UK viewing numbers either, or US for that, since they are ad-free as well within about 20 minutes of it airing. Once big speeds kick in properly, primetime TV could be on the verge on going where the music industry is at, though it should be able to deal with it better, with OnDemand services and shit already becoming big deals.

Not sure where you're getting the 8m for Chuck, it's nearly been dropped countless times due to terrible ratings but the fanboys always persuade them to pick it up (and a very obvious Subway sponsorship helps). Also, NBC is a far bigger and more viewed station than Virgin 1.

Prime time in the states is just far bigger than the UK, especially nowadays with torrents. Even if Americans do get torrents, they'll still be after the show premiers, where as we'll pretty much always have to wait weeks, maybe months for shows unless we torrent 'em up, so by the time they've aired nobody really gives a feck.

I've been a huge fan of Chuck since the get go and I don't recall ever watching an episode of it on TV.

:nono: Malcolm in the Middle was a class show.

Anyone seen that "The Middle" that debuted on there a few days ago? It's such a poor mans MitM and unsurprisingly It was absoloute shit.

Buffy/Angel were great also, people should stop taking them so serious. Just a hell of a lot of fun both of them. Didn't SkyOne also have the epicness that was the X-Files? Though I only watched it on BBC2 for most of it's run.

My word. I saw the commercial for that the other day. Within the first 10 seconds of the ad, i knew it was a shitty malcom in the middle wannabe. And then came the end, when they said the name, "the middle," at that point, i swear i thought it was the same producers or something! They couldnt possibly get away with that, clear as daylight its a shitty wannabe. Oh well.
