Sir Chris Hoy

In my oppinion Olympic athletes deserve a lot of respect, more so than most footballers. That said, not sure about the knighthood.

Team GB did fantastic at the Olympics and deserves recognisition for this but a knighthood....I'm not so sure. I just don't get it that somebody can get made a Sir for winning 3 gold medals but somebody like Bruce Forsythe who's graced British television for 60 years gets passed up yet again

All that baffles me is that some of these medalist's could do nothing from now to the end of their careers and they have already been honored for it.

One thing that annoys me is that it took so long to honor all of England's '66 team, yet months after the Olympics all gold medalists get recognized in one way or another.

Even poxy Christine OHorrorwho gets honored. Take it no one told them she missed 3 drugs tests for which she was banned that have all but been forgotten thanks to her Gold Medal.

At least Chris Hoy has won at back to back Olympics!

:lol::lol::lol: Brucie

More deserving than yer normal common or garden twats in the city getting them.

I thought i was alone in my thinkin here, Chris Hoy is a superb Cyclist & has represented Britain extremely well, but to honour him with the highest honour is rediculous.

Of course Great Britain should be quite rightly commended for their achievements at the Olympics but to give many of them State recognition has in my opinion devalued OBE's, MBE's etc..

Gordon Brown is the one who chooses this on behalf of the Queen, so its no surprise that Chris Hoy is also a Scot!

You'd think so but Brown is a plastic Scot. When quizzed about his favourite goal, he said Gazza's against Scotland in Euro 96. Great goal yes, but a heartbreaking moment for any true Scotsman.

Your damn right there Gio, what real Scotsman would say that was their favourite goal FFS. That goal broke scottish hearts aswell as Irish hearts

Fergie was quoted as saying that he wouldnt take the England managers job because he was a Scotsman & the day England won the 1966 World Cup was "the worst day of his life..."

Brown is a sit-on-the-fench politician from a Scottish background, though i feel he thinks first & foremost that he is British before being Scottish. I guess thats the angle he has to take in order not to alienate himself to non-Scottish Brits!

Still though - stomach churning to lose your identity, if he ever had it that is!!

"Sir" puts him on par with the likes of the soldiers who died fighting for the United Kingdom, those who have devoted their lives to charity, and so on...

He won a couple of gold medals at a sporting event...

Absolutely man but not even dying for the Country has gained individuals such recognition. Even if you just take the entertainment industry, the likes of Brucey etc have not been given this recognition, after 60 years entertaining folk you'd think he's more deserving of this than a Cyclist of relatively young age by comparison!

As an Irishman this whole State awards carry-on doesnt appeal to me anyway, but i do recognise greatness that is usually associated with gettin a Knighthood & this Sir Chris Hoy nonsense has duly diluted its status in my opinion!
