Why? I don't even like him very much.

Of course.

Tho I don't think enough credit has gone to Kidd and Maclaren.

I did like him a lot, then it got less - and in the past couple of months, I've gone right off him. When we won the treble, he got all the accolades, and got knighted.

Last year we won nowt, and he keeps slagging off the players. Well obviously, the players didn't do it - but I've not heard him take any responsibility at all. But if you take the credit when it goes well, then you should take your share of blame when it doesn't.

he has taken responsibility , don't you read his latest interviews.

but he can only do so much the rest is up to the players when on the pitch, last year players had trouble motivating themselves due to a lot of reasons; like the new manager's coming, why give 110% for fergie, new contracts, veron settling, scholes well off form etc.....

You say it as you see it.

If I've missed something, fair enough, but I haven't seen an interview where Fergie takes any of the blame.

But apart from that, I just don't think he's a particularly nice person.

But that's not important. Of course I appreciate what he did for United, but I still wonder if we would have had the same success without Kidd and Maclaren.

And sometimes Fergie's interviews make me cringe. I don't think he does a lot for United's PR.

Livvie:

I tend not to put much stock in 'celeb's spotlight life'. I always thought this NFL player, who I met at a golf club in Florida, was a real nice guy, his on TV persona was great, always smiling and polite etc. but when I met the cnut, he was just that, a right cnut; conversely, when I met a baseball player at the same club, who I always thought was a right twat, he turned out to be a top man!

Anyway, your perception of Fergie is simply that and you are entitled to it, you may have met him for all I know; to me though, he's a person I see usually when at work, be it before, during or after a game, it's his job and he's not gonna be all lovey dovey as it may be percieved as a sign of softness etc.

Now, if I met him down the boozer and he was the same grumpy f'ker that I see on TV, then I'd be the first to agree with you.

I'd still love him though!

From teamtalk:

Sir Alex Ferguson has begun his war of words with Arsene Wenger by claiming that 'every' Arsenal player would like to join Manchester United.
The Old Trafford chief responded to relinquishing the Premiership crown to the Gunners last season by splashing out £33.1m on England defender Rio Ferdinand this summer - a fee which Frenchman Wenger believes was "£10m too much".
And Ferguson has now claimed that Highbury hero Patrick Vieira wanted to join United last term, but was blocked by the Arsenal board.
The Scot went even further by claiming any Gunners star would jump at the chance of a move to Old Trafford, because "players always want to go to a bigger club".
He added: "They would all like to come here. Patrick Vieira would have loved to have come here last season but they wouldn't let him.
"Players will always want to go to a bigger club. That's life. There is no player in this country who wouldn't want to play for Manchester United. We are without question the highest-profile team in the world."
Despite the fact Arsenal did the domestic Double, winning both the league and FA Cup, Ferguson insists his team are still the "most entertaining" and attacking team in the Premiership.
He added: "We have the best disciplinary record in the country. We score the most goals. We entertain the most. And we put more into winning a game than any other team in the world.
"I am lucky, I am working for the best club in the world."
United face Premiership new-boys West Brom at home on the opening day of the season, while Wenger's troops face Midlands outfit Birmingham on Sunday, August 18.

Thing is, he's probably right as well, Vieira probably would love to play for us. Wenger can't turn around and say "Roy Keane would love to play for Arsenal"

Although Roy Keane would love to play for Celtic does have a ring to it.

Yes, Keano has said that when he feels he can't hold down a place in the Man United team, he wouldn't mind playing for Celtic

I'm sure Wenger's on the phone to Utd right now, asking if the comments were about his girlfriend.

Why've we gotta love them? If we finish above Arsenal I can do without the mind games. If we finish below, they're no comfort. Wenger actually seems better at them than SAF nowadays. I think SAF should drop mind games and concentrate on ensuring we are better than Arsenal on the pitch. Not in the media.

i also wonder how successful he'd have been without the great dane, cantona, keane etc etc... sigh.

and appreciate isn't the word, liv... he and mat busby are the two most important people in the history of United... and the reasons why you and others outside, Manchester, support United.

without him, no success... plain and simple.

I think Maclaren and Kidd both had more tactical nous than Fergie.

Sorry.

but no one can match fergies man mangement and authoritive powers, even with some of the biggest names in football.

I haven't suggested otherwise. Tho thinking about it, I'm not sure his man management is particularly good. Fergie has favourites.

Liv, if he's so bad how come he's done so well? He's not the best coach, but he is the best manager and the best manager will always come out on top because he delegates so well and gets in people, like Alex has done this summer with the new coaches, who have the strengths he doesn't. He's a great man manager but one who tries to pick players that respond to his style, he doesn't want wimpy players, he wants strong characters who can cope with criticism and pressure, who fight the odds and want to prove their critics wrong.
