It’s why I don’t really get as outraged as some do about Klopp and his nonsensical dealings with the press - he knows a lot of it is bullshit as well. It’s an ‘us against the world’ mentality, just the same as Fergie used.

Anybody read 1999: the treble and all that? It’s a great book that also goes into the behind the scenes stuff with the press, and stuff like this was a daily occurrence.

I thought those quotes were in the 2003/04 pre-season when Veron admittedly hadn’t been having the best performances (domesticly mediocre but much better in Europe). I’m sure a few weeks later we ended up selling him to Chelsea for a tidy sum of newly acquired Abramovich money (considering he only played a dozen times for them).
He was playing that whole season with a back problem and continued to do so at Chelsea. Fergie was right, Veron was a great player. Didn't really manage to fit him into our style of play but he was one of the most exciting signings I can remember.

Thought we would clean up the summer we signed RvN and Veron. Pity Veron just couldn't get to grips with the PL even with some great moments. He'd be perfect for the PL nowadays.
I was on the Old Trafford tour the day Veron signed and we saw him on the pitch doing interviews. One of those signings that you think will be amazing, had a similar buzz to when Rooney joined.

Was at the Utd v Fulham first home game which Veron and RVN both made their debuts, Veron was mesmerising, genuinely world class, incidentally, Louis Saha scored twice for Fulham that day.
First in a handful of games where Louis ran us ragged before Sir Alex just thought "screw it" and signe him!
How I miss SAF! I love how he protected the players. How he would make journalists be accountable to what they wrote. We don't see enough of that now a days. They trash they write just to get clicks on their article is disgusting. To profit off of MUFC by writing trash shouldn't be acceptable. Glad SAF didn't put up with that. I miss a good banning.

.This is a great recording and shows just how much Fergie would defend his players and go for the journalists who dared to write rumours or lies about them. No wonder the players would run through walls for him.
