Single Player PC game suggestion

Need a suggestion for a good PC game.

I recently played COD 4 and enjoyed the single player action thoroughly and was looking for something similar. (i.e good plot, good graphics, realistic interface)

Preferably a game mix of action and adventure.

Thnx Vida, I am not really an FPS fan to be honest. Someone recommended Psychonauts so I'll be checking that out... looks quite trippy.
