When is he going to sign an extension? He's got only a year left.

Pretty unlikely since he's only got a year left on his contract

He didn't cost much, but should be worth at least 5m now.

We don't let players get into the last year of their contracts often, unless they're going to be sold or released - and Mickey would fetch some money so it won't be the latter.</strong><hr></blockquote>
The funny thing is Fergie has said nothing about silvestre and his contract, not a positive sign for mickey me thinks.
Personally I wouldn't be surprised if we bought a left-back as our second defender, it's just that the shortlist is anybody's guess unlike for central defence.

I've watched his evolution over the past 3 years and feel like he's still getting better. Fantastic going forward, needs to work on his defending a bit though. That said, the same can be said about Bobby Carlos, and he's considered World Class by many. </strong><hr></blockquote>
Well, he better sign that extension before the CL games kick in or we'll be kept on the edge by wondering what his future will be.
As for selling him if he doesn't sign, that one year expiry date is working against us.

I did say at least - its just its hard to tell with the current market conditions. The fact is thought you wouldn't be expecting him to cost even half as much as Carlos, or Cafu, which is because he's pretty useless at defensive positioning and costs a lot of goals, even if he does create quite a few.

He cost 4 or 4.5...
Just because there's no word from United on this doesn't mean there's nothing going on. Fergie wouldn't tell a reporter: "err, don't you want to ask about Silvestre?".
Micky's six months away from being able to sign for someone on a Bosman. If we've let it go so far we're probably already close to a new deal. Either that, or with our defensive problems we'd prefer to keep him for one more year and worry about a replacement later.

I agree. To let him go for nothing would be stupid.

£4m. I've pointed out before that we've been linked with more leftbacks than any other position, and I can't help but feel that when Alex was mentioning individual errors, he often meant Mickey. I don't expect him to be with us next summer - and if Alex succeeds with his transfer targets then I would expect him to be sold this summer, or early season.

Thats because Irwin left, and we need cover in that position.

I don't. I think Veron is staying put.
