He's been linked to a lot of Italian clubs recently, here's the latest:
AC Milan are ready to move for Manchester United left-back Mikael Silvestre.
The French international moved to Old Trafford from Inter Milan and is highly regarded by Italian coaches.

According to Gazetta dello Sport today, Milan football director Ariedo Braida plans to move for Silvestre in January - knowing that the defender's agent is currently in the middle of new contract talks with United.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has made no secret of his desire to bring in at least one new left-sided fullback, suggesting he has lost patience with Silvestre this season.

Fergie has been linked with Lazio's Juan Pablo Sorin and Rennes youngster Julien Escude since the summer.

the eyeties are always "moving in" on some Utd player or other.
let them feck off instead.
unless tweetie thinks they'll play him at CB instead of Nesta

I believe that Silvestre has vastly improved since he first joined us.

Indeed his attacking contribution has proved very useful at times and his defending capabilities have got better.

Then agin though, if we are to havea world class defence then, maybe mickey aint quite the man. It would be sad to see him go though!

there could be some truth in this as Milan arent exactly pleased with Serginhio at the moment.
Theyre looking at all sorts of left sided options at the moment.
That being said id be VERY surprised if Utd let Mickey go, especially with the fact we dont have any replacements.

We dont have a replacement...yet.. but improved player or not I for one wont miss him. I just hope whoever we buy has better concentration and positional sense than Mikey!

Heard something about United officials heading for Rennes this weekend for more talks over Escude.
It's possible Silverstre has been lined up to go to Milan as part of a deal to bring in Shevckenko, particularly as he seems in no hurry to sign a new contract.
It would be asking a lot of Escude to step straight into the first team though.

Silvestre's done ok, no more IMO. I wouldn't be against seeing him leave and geting someone new in.

Will we get a transfer fee or will he be signing on a free? basically, when does his contract run out?

No more than it was when the Arse put Ashley Cole in.

I would swap him with Kaladze. The georgian is a better defender and can play equally well as a central back and defensive midfielder

I would also bring a left back as his cover though

milan are chasing hasan sas as a replacement for serginho.

and escude wouldn't be an improvement on silvestre anyway, he's exactly the same type of player. not abd going forward, wayward defensively.

sorin's different class to escude.

Serginho is a left defender no? Sas isn't? Are you getting your Serginhos mixed up or am I?

serginho's a left winger / wing-back really. he's playing left midfield at the moment for milan, hence their looking at sas to replace him.

serginho's from the brasilian school of defending.

I thought Sas was more of a central midfielder.

he plays left mid for turkey, certainly, and i think also for galatasaray.

damn good player, like. . .could probably play anywhere across the midfield or even up front if he wanted.

about two years ago, I thought Mikael Silvestre was not a good player.
but now, I think we should KEEP him! Of course, he is not the best LB yet, but he is one of the excellent LB players, and he would been more powerful. Don't forget, Rorbet Carlos had a failed season in Inter, and now he is the best LB!

DailyMail:
Silvestre on the brink - France defender may quit over his role on the left side
Manchester United are in danger of losing key defender Mikael Silvestre on a Bosman free transfer after he stalled over the club's latest contract offer. Anxious United bosses are becoming increasingly concerned over Silvestre's reluctance to commit himself to another deal at Old Trafford and fear he could leave for nothing at the end of the season. Although more talks with chief executive Peter Kenyon have been pencilled in for the end of this month, the 25-year-old's stubborn stance has encouraged the belief in his native France that he will explore other options in the New Year. Frequently outspoken, he has expressed misgivings about his role on the left of Sir Alex Ferguson's defence and would be entitled to speak to clubs abroad in January.

ManUtd.com:
United have denied rumours that Mikael Silvestre will quit the club at the end of the season as he's not happy playing at full-back.

The Daily Mail reported on Wednesday that talks with the French defender has stalled because he is insisting on playing at centre-back for the Reds.

Silvestre's current contract expires at the end of the season, leaving him free to talk to foreign clubs in January and walk away on a free transfer in May.

However, Paddy Harverson told ManUtd.com that the stories are premature. "Talks are ongoing with Mikael," he said.

Silvestre's not going to find a centerhalf role at a club in the level of United. He can either be a left back for a top club or a centerhalf for a very mediocare one.

Didn't I mention that it was Liverpool that the paper linked him with?

Not one that has the likes of Ferdinand, Brown, O'Shea, and Blanc he's not, no.
